The new league, called the Vaillancourt Conference, is named in honor of Pomfret alumna Sarah Vaillancourt ’04, a two-time Olympic Gold medalist and member of the Canadian national team. Sarah Marie Vaillancourt (born May 8, 1985) is a Canadian women's ice hockey player. She is a member of the Canada women's national team and a member of Montreal Stars (CWHL). After graduating from Pomfret, Vaillancourt played NCAA Division I hockey for the Harvard Crimson, where she was ranked fourth in the nation.
Member schools of the newly-formed Vaillancourt Conference include Austin Preparatory School (MA), Kents Hill School (ME), Northfield Mount Hermon (MA), North Yarmouth Academy (ME), Pomfret School (CT), and Worcester Academy (MA). Teams will play each other twice per season and will compete in a playoff in late February prior to the start of the NEPSAC Postseason tournaments.
