Laboratory Teaching Personnel, Dept of International & European Studies, University of Macedonia, GreeceDimitris Vagianos was born in 1975 in Thessaloniki. Ηe attended the 37th Elementary School, and the 17th High School of Thessaloniki. In 1993 he started his studies in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He graduated from the Telecommunications Division of the school in 1998.
In March 1999 he obtained his Engineering license from the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE) in Central Macedonia.
In 1999 he moved to Guildford, UK for full-time postgraduate studies in the University of Surrey. He graduated in 2000 getting his Master of Science Degree in Mobile Communication Systems with Distinction. He completed his Diploma Thesis in British Telecommunications plc in Ipswich, Suffolk.
From 2008 to 2013 he carried out his Doctoral Thesis (Ph.D) at the University of Macedonia in the field of Big Data Mining and Analysis derived from applications of the Social Web.
He completed his military service (18 months) as an Air Force reserve Officer specializing in the maintenance of electromechanical installations and medium-voltage substations.
From 2002 to 2005 he worked as a freelancer Electrical and Computer Engineer participating in the Extension and Support Projects of the Pan-Hellenic School Network (edunet), the Promotion of Broadband Services and providing Consulting Services in the implementation of Optical Fiber MANs in 7 major cities of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.
In 2005 his career was turned into the field of Higher Education. From 2005 to 2014 he worked in the Department of International and European Studies as a member of the Specialized Technical Laboratory Personnel. Since 2014, he was been working in the same Department as a member of the Specialized Laboratory Teaching Personnel undertaking independent (standalone) teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in both Greek and English and supervising a series of Graduate Theses. He has numerous publications in scientific journals, collective volumes and international conferences relevant to his scientific subject area.
Regarding other activities and tasks in the University of Macedonia, he is since 2005 creator and technically responsible as well as member of the Governance and ICT Lab (GICT Lab). He is also the Administrative Coordinator of the Erasmus+ Mobility program in the Department of International and European Studies and member of the University Senate.
He is fluent in 2 foreign languages: English (C2) and German (C1). He holds an English Language Teaching License granted by the Directorate of Secondary Education. Thessaloniki, (Protocol No. 2879, May 2005).
Since 1999 he has been a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece and since 2005 he is a member of the Association of Civil Servant Engineers. He is also a member of the Greek Society of Data Analysis and also amember of the EU Cost Action CA19142 Management Committee of the Leading Platform for European Citizens, Industries, Academia and Policymakers in Media Accessibility.
From a very young age he was involved in sports and basketball. He competed with the children's and adolescent teams of YMCA, Arion Sykeon and the Alumni Association of the Experimental School of Thessaloniki at local level. He also dealt with windsurfing and sailing. In 2007 he became a Master of Offshore Sailing Boats as the first graduate of the Thessaloniki Maritime Club's training series.
He is married and has two children.
