LORE AND MECHANICS SUBJECT TO CHANGE, WE ARE IN CLOSED ALPHA, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT
A “techlock” is the limit for how far technology can advance in a setting, and how it shall remain for an indefinite period of time. The goal is not to limit player creativity, but rather to set a ceiling for the purpose of keeping to the themes of the server.
Vadratha is set in a period akin to the mid-late Medieval Era. Sword, shield, and armor reign supreme. The absolute height of technology is that of the early Renaissance, or around the early-mid 1300s, with some small exceptions. This stipulation is strictly before the first recorded guns were invented; the only exception to this rule is the “Fire Lance”, one of the first gun-like weapons recorded in history. Beyond this, guns of any sort are beyond the techlock, and cannot be conceptualized. This rule also lies in place for weapons of a magical nature that would emulate a gun. Regarding weaponry, the most advanced weapon available would be the cannon.
Certain inventions made during the Renaissance are given exemptions from the Techlock, typically of a more flavorful nature. Such exemptions range from eyeglasses, the telescope, and even the mechanical clock.
Medical practices are quite sketchy at best, as reflected during the Medieval Times. The bulk of the common folk believe in bloodletting and concepts akin to the Four Humors. It’s reasonable for the educated to see beyond such, as well as hold an understanding of human anatomy and basic functions. Magic would be the more primary means of healing, since it proves to have a much higher success rate than standard primitive practices.
The concepts of steam and the steam engine are yet to yield any success, but have been explored in more recent time considering the Flood. For example, more practical applications for the “Aeolipile” or “Hero’s Engine” have been attempted. While recreation of such a device may have proven successful, any reasonable application or newfound understanding of steam is nowhere to be found.
