PI: Timothy D. Vaden, PhD
Timothy Vaden received his PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2005 and spent his postdoc years at Oxford University and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Since 2010 he has been working in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Rowan University.
His research interests are in experimental physical and biophysical chemistry, including spectroscopy, instrumental analysis, and biochemistry. He regularly uses infrared and Raman spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, liquid and gas chromatography, electroanalytical chemistry, fluorescence spectroscopy, and many other techniques. He has interests in acidic ionic liquids, biochemical applications of ionic liquids, protein structure and stability, lipid stability in ionic liquids, and catalytic materials for hydrogen generation.
Timothy can be contacted at vadent@rowan.edu and his research profile can be found here.
Isabella DeStefano is a sophomore Biochemistry major. She is also a member of Rowan’s Thomas N. Bantivoglio Honors Concentration of the Honors College. Isabella was named to the Rowan President Scholar of Excellence List and Dean’s List for Fall, 2018 and Spring, 2019. She is a BLAST peer mentor in the Honors Concentration, Secretary of Women Inspiring the Next Generation of Scientists (WINGS), and a member of both Rowan’s American Chemical Society (ACS) chapter and American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA). Isabella spent Summer, 2019 in the Vaden Lab, working on the projects entitled, “Assessing the Lipid Bilayer Permeability of Ionic Liquids for Drug Delivery Formulations” and “Combining Experiments and Simulations to Optimize Biomolecular Ionic Liquids for Protein Stabilization.” She also co-presented at Rowan’s COURI Summer Symposium on “The Effects of Ionic Liquids on Protein Structure and Lipid Membrane Permeabilization.”
Gabriella DeStefano is a sophomore Biochemistry major and a member of the Thomas N. Bantivoglio Honors Concentration in Rowan’s Honors College. She serves as Honors BLAST peer mentor and Rowan University Student Government Association Senator. Gabriella is also a member of Rowan’s E-Board of WINGS (Women Inspiring the Next Generation of Scientists), ACS (American Chemical Society), and AMWA (American Medical Women’s Assoc.). Gabriella worked in the Vaden Lab over summer, 2019 on two different projects: “Assessing the Lipid Bilayer Permeability of Ionic Liquids for Drug Delivery Formulations” and “Combining Experiments and Simulations to Optimize Biomolecular Ionic Liquids for Protein Stabilization.” Gabriella also co-presented “The Effects of Ionic Liquids on Protein Structure and Lipid Membrane Permeabilization” at Rowan’s College Office of Undergraduate Research Initiatives (COURI) Summer Symposium. At Rowan, Gabriella has been named a President’s Scholar of Excellence and to the Dean’s List for Fall, 2018 and Spring, 2019.
