The Virtual Art Camp aims to provide participants an opportunity to explore creative means to tackle feelings of boredom, stress and isolation that one might feel during these trying times while simultaneously encouraging using art as a means to spark conversations on issues faced by the society.

We hope to offer a safe space for youth to meaningfully engage with each other while building their leadership skills and critical thinking.

Who is it for?

The camp is for youth between the age of 16-25 who are interested in exploring creative means to tell stories, create art, explore different mediums, and build leadership skills.

Do I need to be an Artist or know how to create?

Absolutely not. The workshop is open to all interested young individuals from anywhere in the Maldives.

What is the duration of the workshop?

The workshop is scheduled to take place during December 2020. The workshop has 5 contact days where you will be interacting online and 3 offline days where you will be working on your own. The workshop will run from 9:00 to 18:00 each day.

Will I be an Artist by the end of the workshop?

Aren’t we all artists? Everyone is an artist in some way, everyone’s creativity is unique. Through this workshop you will explore different mediums, be inspired by contemporary artists and find the artist in you. You might not become a professional artist, but you will have created a unique piece of art that reflects your story and your ideas. Most importantly, you will have lots of fun doing it all.

What will I be creating and exploring?

You will be guided and mentored to create an art piece that hopefully reflects your own personal stories or your lived experience and ideas.

Everyday you will be submitting and sharing your work in progress as you go through the main steps to creating an art work. You will learn how to do research, develop a concept, create a mood board, write a statement and bio. You will also learn about installation and documentation.

To top it up, there will be awareness and skill development sessions that would help you better understand the social issues and challenges that impact youth like you in your everyday life.

Who will be the mentors and what mediums will be explored?

You will be guided by practicing artists working in different mediums. This workshop will mainly focus on 2D Art, Photography, Multimedia, Mixed Media and Creative writing.

What do I need to bring for the workshop?

You will need access to a device for the duration of the workshop.

You will be provided with an Art Kit with the basic materials required and 3g connectivity for the duration of the workshop.
