Privacy Policy — Vaani Panchangam

Vaani Panchangam ("the app") is a Tamil Panchangam application developed by Jagadesh. It provides daily Panchangam, Tamil calendar, auspicious and inauspicious timings, festivals, Viratham days, Muhurtham dates, horoscope (jathagam) calculations, Rasi Palan and related Hindu calendar information.
This Privacy Policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have.
1. Information the app collects
a) Information you provide when you sign in (optional)
The app can be used without creating an account. If you choose to sign in with your Google account, we receive your name and email address from Google Sign-In. These are stored in our Firebase database along with the date of your first sign-in, and are used only to manage your account and any free trial or subscription.
b) Purchase information
If you subscribe through Google Play, Google Play processes the payment. We do not receive your card or bank details. The app receives only the subscription status (active / expired) and the Google Play purchase record needed to unlock features. Google Play's own privacy policy applies to the payment itself.
c) Information collected automatically
App interactions and usage — which screens and features are used, and how often, collected through Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the app is used and to improve it.
Approximate location — Google Analytics for Firebase may derive an approximate location (country / region / city) from your IP address. The app does not use your device's GPS or precise location, and does not ask for the location permission. The district you select inside the app for sunrise-based calculations is stored only on your device.
Crash logs and diagnostics — if the app crashes, Firebase Crashlytics collects the crash stack trace, device model, Android version and app version so the problem can be fixed. This does not include your name, email or any content you entered.
Device or other identifiers — a Firebase installation ID and a push-notification (FCM) token, which are needed to send notifications, count users and attribute crash reports. These identifiers are not linked to your name or email unless you sign in.
d) Information that stays on your device only
Your selected district, notification preferences, horoscope inputs (name, date, time and place of birth), any photo you attach to a bio-data, generated PDFs and cached calendar data are stored only on your device. They are not uploaded to our servers. When you share a PDF or image using the Android share sheet, it goes only to the app you choose.
2. How we use information
To provide the app's features (calendar data, notifications, account and subscription status).
To send notifications you have turned on (daily Panchangam, Viratham reminders, announcements). You can turn each one off in the app's Announcements page at any time.
To understand usage and improve the app (analytics).
To detect and fix crashes and errors (Crashlytics).
To prevent misuse of the free trial (see Section 5).
We do not use the information for advertising. The app contains no third-party ads.
3. Third-party services
The app uses the following Google services, each governed by Google's privacy policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy):

4. Data sharing
We do not sell, rent or share your personal information with any third party. Data is processed by the Google services listed above solely to operate the app. We may disclose information if required by law.
5. Data storage and retention
Account information (name, email, first sign-in date, subscription status) is kept while your account exists.
Analytics and crash data are retained by Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics according to Firebase's default retention periods, and are not linked to your identity.
Free-trial record: when you first sign in, a one-way SHA-256 hash of your email address and the date is stored. This hash cannot be reversed to reveal your email and cannot be used to identify you. It is retained even after account deletion, solely to prevent the same email from claiming a second free trial.
All data is transmitted over encrypted (HTTPS/TLS) connections.
6. Account deletion
To delete your account and the data associated with it: open the app, go to "தொடர்புக்கு" (Contact Us) and tap "Delete Account". This immediately deletes your account and your name, email and subscription record from our database.
Alternatively, email vaanipanchangam@gmail.com from the Gmail address you signed in with, subject "Delete my account". Your account and associated data will be deleted within 7 days.
Only the one-way email hash described in Section 5 is retained after deletion.
Note: deleting your account does not cancel an active Google Play subscription. To cancel, open Google Play → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
7. Your choices
You can use the app without signing in.
You can turn notifications on or off in the app's Announcements page and in Android settings.
You can delete your account at any time (Section 6).
You can reset your device's advertising/analytics identifiers through Android settings.
8. Children's privacy
The app is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, contact us and it will be deleted.
9. Security
Data is stored on Google Firebase infrastructure and protected by Firebase security rules so that each signed-in user can access only their own account record. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
10. Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when the app's features or data practices change. The updated version will be published on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
