Meetings are held once a month at Loudoun County HS or an outside venue, depending on the altruistic activities or social events planned. (See our Handbook for the Calendar of Events)
Activities:
· raise funds for annual scholarships awarded to students who will be entering the field of education and ELL (English Language Learner) students in the Y.E.S. (Youth Empowerment Support) program furthering their education after high school graduation
· organize and host an annual Women’s Summit to inspire young women to set high expectations for themselves
· host speakers at meetings to explore a variety of local, national, and international topics (Ex. Camino de Santiago trek, integration of schools in Loudoun County, local history etc.)
· participate in altruistic activities for a variety of organizations (Ex. Mobile Hope, Loudoun Hunger Relief, Boulder Crest, Meadow Glen Senior Living Community, Spring Arbor Senior LIving Community, etc.)
· enjoy social gatherings and educational events (Ex. walking tour of Leesburg, wine tasting at a local winery, tour of the historic Douglass School, holiday celebration at a local restaurant)
support novice and experienced teachers (provide school supplies, share "Teacher Tips", nominate members for Teacher of the Year, sponsor teachers for an Alpha Delta Kappa grant)
Each year, VA Gamma Sigma awards at least one $500+ scholarship to a Loudoun County High School senior who plans to pursue a career in education. LCHS Future Teacher Scholarship
We also provide a $500 scholarship for an ELL Loudoun County High School senior in the Y.E.S. program at LCHS. Y.E.S. (Youth Empowerment Support) Scholarship
In addition, if grant money is received, we present a $5000 Aspiring African American Educator Scholarship, which is open to all African American seniors in LCPS who plan to teach.
