Vernon Thomas Padgett, better known as Tom, is a respected music educator, conductor, and clinician, currently serving as the Associate Director of Bands at James F. Byrnes High School in Duncan, South Carolina. With a career dedicated to developing outstanding student musicians, he has played a vital role in leading ensembles to state and national recognition, including Bands of America (BOA) Regional Championships, state championships, and national finalist placements.

Beyond his role in public education, Tom is an active adjudicator, clinician, and board member for organizations such as the Carolina Winter Ensemble Association (CWEA) and the National Band Association (NBA). He previously served on the South Carolina Band Directors Association (SCBDA) Executive Board as the Winter Ensemble Chairman, where he helped guide competitive music programs at the state level.

Tom's passion for music education began at Appalachian State University, where he initially pursued studies in music education before transferring to East Tennessee State University (ETSU). He later earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from the University of Virginia’s College at Wise in 2009. Committed to furthering his expertise in educational leadership, he completed a Master’s in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis at ETSU in 2015.

Tom’s ensembles have consistently received Superior ratings, State Championship titles, BOA Regional Championships, and National Finalist recognition. His influence extends beyond the concert and marching field, having served on the instructional staff of Phantom Regiment and Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps.

As a leader in the performing arts community, Padgett was inducted into Phi Beta Mu, the International Bandmasters Fraternity, in recognition of his contributions to the field of music education. His ongoing work with CWEA, NBA, and other professional organizations reflects his dedication to advancing music education, mentoring young educators, and fostering high-level performance excellence.
