"The Salts songs are of a nautical nature, with a penchant for rocking sea shanties (well suited to our venue!) Certainly their swashbuckling energy and fire-cracked enthusiasm makes a riveting addition to the folk scene. Bands playing shanties with the energy and attack of The Salts are few and far between. The band’s energy and articulation is highly obvious when listening to Bulgine Run and Fire Marengo; two fiery up-tempo tracks Their infectious grooves, befitting work songs and pump shanties, are played with a commendable gallop, balancing earthiness, a solid groove and neat almost Beach Boys style harmonies. The lead vocals are raw and unvarnished, but with highly polished backing harmonies. The group seems like it is really enjoying the process of revitalising this often forgotten aspect of folk music, and the performances are suitably impassioned and rousing."

Linda Moylan will be treating us to songs from her latest CD - The Fool . “Every song is a gem of unique arrangement, where melody and distinct emotional charge is stupendously interpreted by Moylan’s strong, warm voice that has a sublime range. Formidable! *****” - Morning Star

Ian W Brown

Tickets £15.00, members £12.50

A guiding light behind the success of the amazing Fisherman’s Friends, and still their manager, Ian W Brown has spent the last 20 years mostly behind the scenes in the music business. As well as co-writing Sandi Thom’s number one single ‘I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker’ and the lead song in the long running West End musical ‘Dreamboats and Petticoats’, Ian has written songs for many other artists, from folk acts such as the Fisherman’s Friends and Show of Hands, to pop stars like Michael Ball and Pixie Lott. Ian only occasionally takes to the stage to play some of his songs that have graced the charts and so many more that haven’t. So this is a rare opportunity to catch him performing. His finely-honed everyman tales and self-deprecating musical outings are interspersed with tall tales from the music business, life, love, and the universe. Inspired by the ignominy of being confused with Ian Brown; the erstwhile lead singer of The Stone Roses, Ian's song 'The Other Ones' provides a poignant insight into the possible irony of sharing your name with a well-known pop artist. Ian is the only known pig farmer to be nominated for an Ivor Novello Award and we are delighted to welcome him for his first visit to Uxbridge. (Hope we've booked the right one!)

Wickenwood

Support is from Wickenwood, a popular Indie-folk trio  from Hemel who have been going from strength to strength. They are well-established duo Phil and Deb Marshall and fiddle player Mags Layton. Together they play acoustic music with contemporary influences, based around harmony-driven vocals, drawing inspiration from the folklore and legends of the people and places they visit.
