Rigorous and creative research
UW-Eau Claire is top-ranked as a comprehensive university for undergraduate research.
The Math department is strongly committed to undergraduate mathematics research. Mathematics professors enjoy collaborating on various creative research projects with undergraduate students, as early as in their first year.
Get involved in Math research
Participating in research as an undergraduate is not just rewarding and exciting.
Undergraduate research gives students practical experience and knowledge beyond their course’s curriculum. Such enrichment will benefit students in their future workplace or in graduate school.
Math research opportunities are available throughout your academic year and even throughout the summer months. Getting involved takes just a few actions from your side: Check out some examples of research projects that have been completed by students and faculty. If you are interested in working in a research area, keep in mind that math faculty may be looking for students on their current or future research projects. Take the initiative, send an email or speak to a faculty member about your interest in working on an undergraduate research project.
Students can also earn credit for research in the mathematics department by taking Math 480. This is an independent study that allows students to conduct their research under the guidance of a faculty member that also provides resources and information about opportunities to present their findings.
The extra caviar: generally, students get paid while working on a student/faculty collaborative research project! The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP), which is the key support for Faculty and Undergraduate Student Research Collaboration, has several grants available.
