Build Description
We built our prototyping by 3D modeling all of our parts so that they are capable of mounting the motors and the LED in the way we envisioned. The all-original parts are as follows: The duct body (large rectangular filter casing) , vent covers so that we can attach the duct to our model, a duct lid (pictured to the right) so that we can work on and demonstrate the internals functioning, and two copies of our axial fan design, moving air through the filter. The duct components are printed using ABS plastic filament, and the fans are carbon fiber.
The layout of the filter's internals. There is an input and an output fan, exposing the air to the UV light from the LED in the center.
This is how the duct body(black) and duct cap(silver) fit together. A 9V dry-cell battery is used to power both the two motors and the UV light.
The printed duct is attached to our classroom diorama model by using vent covers, pinching the wooden ceiling of our model.
