Lantern Fest Movie Suggestions

Watching a festival-related movie with family is a great way to start discussions on festival topics.  I watched both 'Thurgood' and 'LBJ' with my 7th-grader and it helped us learn some history and discuss some thorny topics.  For older folks It's also a great way to learn in greater depth the recent social progress history that happened after attending school and college.  As one explores the history of social progress through this media there are multiple lessons to be learned from how individuals and situations created social change.

We do not yet have a collection of titles organized for young children.  However, in the area of black history and culture there are a number of general lists of family-friendly films that include selections for children:
