The Annual SHRM Case Competition will be Saturday, March 22nd. It will be hosted this year on-site at Utah State University.
Below are the highlights!
In this “realistic job preview” competition, team members leverage knowledge acquired through studies and apply it to a realistic HR situation likely to be encountered in the work world. This competition requires integrated HR thinking, ethical decision-making, and strong communication and presentation skills.
Teams will analyze and solve a business case, and prepare both a written executive summary and 15-minute oral presentation within a week timeframe. Teams will compete by delivering their 15-minute oral presentation to a panel of judges and answering additional questions. The judges will rate the oral and written presentations based on rubrics that will be provided with the case.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the top teams in the undergraduate and graduate divisions based on the total highest points from written materials and oral presentations.
Case competitions give you a number of incredible opportunities:
You can work on a real scenario in a quick turnaround timeline. This mimics the type of situation you could be placed in during your career. It is excellent practice!
You will be submitting and presenting to judges that are current SHRM Certified HR professionals - this is exposure to your skills as well as amazing networking.
You will be able to meet other HR students and learn from their perspectives.
And lastly, should you do well - yes, there is a cash prize for you and your team!
Each university is allowed to bring up to 5 teams (up to 3 graduate and 4 undergraduate).
Teams can be any where from 2-6 individuals.
There are two separate cases and brackets for undergraduate vs graduate-level students.
We advise you to reach out to your SHRM Student Chapter, if you have not already.
In order to sign up for the event, input your team(s) information on this Google Form by March 11th. This will help us track individual numbers as well as teams.
