Meet Anusha Dhungana, an At-Large Senator in the Undergraduate Student Senate and a Political Science major at Virginia Tech. Anusha joined the USS because of her passion for politics and her desire to improve Virginia Tech, seeing the Senate as the perfect intersection of these interests. She loves representing the student body by engaging with students and learning about their experiences on campus. During her time in the USS, she has successfully advocated for students who rely on financial aid at both the Virginia General Assembly and Capitol Hill, while also building meaningful relationships with faculty and students to help drive positive change. Anusha’s goals for her term include installing security cameras at BT stops, reducing waste in dining halls, and promoting diverse student representation. She stays connected with students by speaking with them during office hours and in casual conversations, always seeking ways to better serve the Hokie community. To Anusha, leadership means working collaboratively to solve problems and create impactful solutions. One of her most memorable experiences as a senator was advocating for financial aid on Capitol Hill, reinforcing her commitment to student success. She believes her strongest quality as a senator is leadership and manages her time effectively by using a Google Calendar to balance Senate duties, coursework, and other commitments, including being an Ambassador for the College of Liberal Arts & Human Sciences, an Undergraduate Research Assistant, and a Teaching Assistant for an English as a Second Language class. Anusha wants students to know that the Senate is not only an incredible opportunity to make a difference on campus but also a place to form lasting friendships and have fun. Her favorite thing about Virginia Tech is the amazing food, and she encourages students interested in joining the Senate to talk to as many people as possible and take advantage of every opportunity it offers.
