I really like this question bank as it allows you to practice board style questions while providing detailed explanations corresponding to First Aid. This makes making notes or reviewing the concept very easy. I also like that you can change the settings to easy-difficult and create subject-specific exams. I found this very helpful throughout basic sciences and preparing for my comprehensive NBME.

I really loved using QMax because of the variety of questions. Some questions would be very simple and just test your basic knowledge, whereas other questions were actually quite difficult and made you think hard. I recommend using QMax from the first day of medical school for everyone because it really makes sure you understand the material thoroughly. The explanations are great and not too lengthy, so that doing the questions does not feel intimidating at all. I used this question bank during my dedicated study period too, and I really enjoyed having an extra set of questions with explanations straight from First Aid!

This is my favorite question bank resource to use. The difficulty of these questions is appropriate. I feel like the content does a really good job of preparing me for exams. I really learn a lot from the explanations. They do a good job of explaining why the other options are wrong.

This was a wonderful and essential Qbank over the course of my first two years in medical school. I used this Qbank to prepare for medical school exams. The nice thing about this system is that you can select questions by category such as cardiology vs neurology, etc. This is important when organizing your studies. The questions were very similar to the actual Step 1 examination. It covers the most important concepts and has good comprehensive details for why answer choices are either right or wrong.

All other Qbanks: Refunds are considered for subscriptions of more than 30 days. Refund amounts are based on the number of days elapsed since the subscription start date or the number of questions used, whichever amounts to a higher deductible.

Example scenarion: An individual purchases a 180-day Qbank subscription and generates a few test blocks equal to 20% of the questions in the Qbank. After 45 days, he/she requests a refund. Because the elapsed duration is greater than the percentage of questions used, the refund amount will be based on a subscription converted to the closest duration (60 days) by deducting the applicable 60-day subscription fee from the refund. In the same scenario, if the individual had used 85% of the questions, the refund would be 15% of the subscription fee paid.

Many students use multiple question banks and complete several practice tests in the weeks or months leading up to the exam, resulting in confirmation of their current knowledge levels. Instead, students should immerse themselves in the right follow-up content to improve their weak points in the shortest time possible.

All quality Step 1 Qbanks go through a rigorous review process. Multiple active physicians within each specialty will work together to create USMLE-style questions relevant to updated medical knowledge. The exact process varies between companies but often goes through several revisions to ensure accuracy.

Osmosis believes in interactive learning so they provide video lectures, USMLE style questions, flashcards, and high-yield notes. The learning material is very unique but many students claim the question banks are lower yield than some of the other resources mentioned.

A question bank for the Step 1 can run you $9-270/month (Archer, Lecturio vs UWorld)! However, purchasing multiple-month or annual packages will save you a lot of dough. We recommend trying the free trials listed above first to see which format and features you like best.

Kaplan offers the question banks for different medical exams. This is including USMLE Step 1. This Step 1 Bank is based on 3300 questions available for 1 month at the cost of $129. It can also be purchased in 3-month ($199), 6-months ($249), 12-month ($299), 18-month ($349), and 24-month ($399) increments. In comparison with some other q-bank products, Kaplan offers reasonable long-term options.

UWorld specializes in providing some effective question banks that cover all the topics available on USMLE exams. This q-bank is available at the cost of $269 for 30 days. You can also purchase their 90-day ($369), 180-day ($419), 360-day ($519), and 730-day ($719) package. The larger packages also include 1-2 Self-Assessments depending on the deal.

All the available q-banks focus on high yield topics and carry out their educational pedagogy in a multi-step fashion to enhance critical thinking. The exact method for determining which questions are high-yield varies per company. It often involves a combination of using the NBME and USMLE Content Outlines, physician knowledge, and student feedback.

We have listed some of the best question banks above, but this is not a comprehensive list. We caution against any Qbank not on this list. Newer or smaller systems are often complicated with errors or duplicate questions to boost their numbers.

Purpose:  The authors examined the usefulness of a commercially available Step 1 question bank as a formative academic support tool throughout organ-based modules in an integrated preclinical medical curriculum. The authors also determined the extent to which correlation between question bank utilization and academic metrics varied with Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) scores.

Method:  In 2015, a cohort of 185 first-year medical students at University of Alabama School of Medicine were provided with 18-month full access to a commercially available Step 1 question bank of over 2,100 items throughout organ-based modules, although there were no requirements for use. Data on student use of the question bank were collected via an online administrative portal. Relationships between question bank utilization and academic outcomes including exams, module grades, and United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1 were determined using multiple linear regression.

Results:  MCAT scores and number of items attempted in the question bank significantly predicted all academic measures, with question bank utilization as the stronger predictor. The association between question bank utilization and academic outcome was stronger for individuals with lower MCAT scores.

Yes, I am involved with the website. I am a current neurosurgery resident and I am sick of the price gouging that occurs on the main USMLE question banks. I have been through all of it myself, step I, II, III and ABNS written boards. I wanted to start a question bank that is free to use, but not only that, one that can constantly update itself as topics change. Users can add/edit questions in a wikipedia style format. All of these new questions and/or edits are approved by me to make sure they remain correct and relevant. Right now there are 1,200 questions and 1,200 "quick hitters" that work like flashcards. It is optimized for use on phones as well.

I can tell you with complete confidence that this question bank will remain free. There are no plans to charge monthly and you don't need to put in any payment information when you sign up. There aren't even ads on the site at the moment. For our site to remain up, we just need people to try it out and give us feedback so we can keep improving.

This guide contains information on what resources the library has for medical students and residents who are preparing for the USMLE Steps 1, 2, and 3. These resources include access to online question banks as well as a wide variety of electronic and print books.

More so than First Aid, more so than Goljan, and absolutely more so than Doctors in Training, I believe the USMLE World question bank is far and away the most critical component of Step preparation (with a solid helping of Wikipedia). Here is why:

AccessMedicine Includes flashcards, a question bank, and material for selected clerkship topics. See the "Study Tools" menu in AccessMedicine. Also, check under "Cases" for case presentation for a wide range of specialties. AccessSurgery also includes surgery-related prep materials and cases.

We recommend that students use the Step 1 question bank throughout segment 2 to prepare for exams and for USMLE Step 1. We also recommend that students use the Step 2 question bank throughout Year 3 to prepare for the NBME subject exams and for USMLE Step 2.
