About Us

Established on January 27th, 1976, Kelab Kung Fu Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) has been a cornerstone of martial arts excellence at our university. In its initial years, the club began with the Shaolin division, standing alongside the Silat Cekak Association and the Karate Club as the pioneers of martial arts on campus. Over time, our club has evolved, expanding its influence and expertise to encompass five dynamic divisions: Shaolin, Taiji, Wushu, Drum, and Dragon & Lion.

The core objectives of Kelab Kung Fu are rooted in propagating the spirit of martial arts and fostering an appreciation for traditional Chinese culture among the student body. Additionally, the club endeavors to promote unity, friendship, and racial integration through the practice and philosophy of Kung Fu. Since its inception, Kelab Kung Fu has successfully attracted a diverse membership, welcoming individuals from various backgrounds and walks of life.

Today, Kelab Kung Fu is celebrated throughout the campus community for its martial prowess and the unwavering commitment of its members. The club serves as a symbol of strength, discipline, and cultural enrichment. Participating in club activities provides members with numerous benefits, including the cultivation of mental and physical strength, the instillation of strong principles, and the development of discipline.

A highlight in our annual calendar is the prestigious Malam Kung Fu, the club's flagship event. This grand spectacle offers audiences the opportunity to witness breathtaking showcases of diverse Kung Fu forms, further solidifying Kelab Kung Fu's reputation as a powerhouse of martial arts within our university.

马来西亚理科大学功夫学会成立于1976年1月27日。在最初的几年里，学会从少林分部开始，与Silat Cekak学会和空手道学会一起成为校园武术的先驱。随着时间的推移，我们的学会发展壮大，拥有五个分部：少林、太极、武术、鼓和龙狮。

理大功夫学会的核心目标是传承武术精神，培养学生对中华传统文化的欣赏。此外，理大功夫学会致力于通过功夫的实践和哲学促进团结、友谊和种族融合。自成立以来，理大功夫学会成功吸引了多元化的会员，欢迎来自各种背景和生活经历的在读生。

今天，理大功夫学会在校园社区因其武术实力和成员的坚定承诺而备受赞誉。该学会象征着力量、纪律和文化丰富性。参与学会的活动为会员带来了许多好处，包括培养心理和身体的力量，灌输坚定的原则以及发展纪律。

在我们每年的日程表中，最引人注目的活动是盛大的“功夫之夜”（Malam Kung Fu），这是理大功夫学会的旗舰活动。这一盛大的表演给观众提供了欣赏多样化功夫形式的机会，进一步巩固了理大功夫学会作为校园武术社团的声誉。

The USM Kung Fu Club Drum Division (a.k.a. USM Drum Team) was established in conjunction with the formation of the USM Kung Fu Club in 1976. Initially led by Master Mah Yok Seng, the team is currently under the guidance of Master Kok Siew Hong.

The primary goal of the USM Drum Team is to promote the traditional Chinese art of drumming within a team framework, producing music that is lively, pleasing, and uplifting for both performers and the audience. New members undergo an introduction to fundamental drumming aspects, including beats, body position, drum components, and movements. Subsequently, they delve into basic drum sets, encompassing essential rhythms crucial for skill development. When a foundation is established, more challenging drum sets are progressively introduced. Member progress is consistently challenged at each stage of development, enhancing their skills and, by extension, the overall team proficiency. The challenges faced by drummers as they progress are integral to their skill development.

As the saying goes, "The effort put in is always more than what is shown." The commitment, passion, team spirit, and perseverance of the drummers are vital components of the USM Kung Fu Club Drum Division. The combination of these elements produces outstanding performances, where drummers play and move in unison with spirit while enjoying the spectacle. Strong bonds are formed as members spend countless hours training together, supporting one another, sharing not only challenges and triumphs but also moments of fun and laughter that make the journey more memorable and meaningful. The team has delivered impressive performances both on and off campus, providing opportunities not only to showcase their talent but also help members gain valuable experience and build self-confidence. Lastly, the spirit of never giving up has forged the current USM Drum Team.

The team warmly welcomes individuals interested in learning, making new friends, and collectively reaching greater heights!

马来西亚理科大学（理大）功夫学会和鼓队于1976年成立。起初，理大功夫学会鼓队在成立之初由槟城精形体育会的马毓声教练领导，而现今则由郭效雄教练引领至今。

理大功夫学会鼓队的宗旨在于弘扬华人传统文化艺术之一，鼓。对于刚刚加入的新队员，他们将会先学习基本鼓法与技巧。其中敲击鼓法包括敲击鼓的各个部位，因为在不同的部位敲击会产生不同的鼓声。他们还将学习站姿、肢体动作、节奏以及各种技巧等。 接下来，新队员将学习最基本的鼓法，以便掌握基本的节奏和旋律。一旦掌握了基本鼓法，他们将逐步学习更具挑战性的鼓法。此外，在每个发展阶段，队员们将面临各种挑战，以进一步提高他们的技能。队员在发展过程中所面临的挑战对于其技能的发展至关重要。

俗话说，“台下十分的努力只为换取那台上一分的华丽。” 鼓手们之间的默契、团队精神、以及毅力是理大功夫学会鼓队的重要元素。鼓手们在表演中的一致动作、高昂士气以及享受表演的心情共同交融，形成了卓越的表演。队员们在无数次的训练中相互支持，不仅共同面对挑战与成就，也一同分享欢乐与笑声，这段旅程因此显得更加难忘且有意义。鼓队在校内外皆有精彩的演出经验，这些表演不仅展现了队员们的实力，也让队员从中汲取经验，成为他们展示自我信心的平台。最后，永不放弃的精神锻造了现在的理大功夫学会鼓队。
