Utilizing our LMS Platform in a productive way.
Our chosen LMS, Canvas, is a wonderful way to connect students, teachers and families in a digital environment. The importance of an LMS is to use technology to facilitate learning in a virtual platform (Turnbull et al. 2022). Canvas courses are pre-loaded for all students and teachers through Clever and parents can join as Observers of their students. All teachers can customize their Canvas courses based on their content area and classroom expectations. Classroom discussions threads, assignments, and agendas can be found all in one place. Teachers can create modules of learning either by time or by unit and can be creative in the way they present information to students. Student engagement can be maintained through Canvas through embedding other platforms that increase interactivity (Haryani & Poniam, 2021). Students can access Canvas with their personal one-to-one devices from home or from school. Our purpose of use with this LMS will be to provide an asynchronous connection for students to access all classroom content from home or school. Canvas is deemed one of the best LMS platforms due to its modern interface, connectivity to other digital tools and its accessibility to students (Fenton, 2018). Our plan is to first train all teachers on how to navigate the LMS as well as how to create content for student use. Once teachers are properly trained on utilizing the LMS, all students will be populated into their scheduled courses. Students will have access to their classes once teachers have published their completed courses. Once all students are connected to their appropriate courses, parents can then join as an Observer to monitor student learning and class expectations.
