Join us!

The Ushiki lab will start in January 2025 at the Department of Genetics at Washington University in St. Louis!

Our lab’s goal is to gain deeper understanding of the function of enhancers in placenta and skeletal development, diseases, and evolution through mouse in vivo functional characterization, such as transgenic/knockout mice models and in vivo Massively parallel reporter assays (MPRAs).

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic lab member interested in the following research topics:

- Preeclampsia and abnormal pregnancies

- Craniofacial birth defects

- Bat wing development

- Development of mouse in vivo enhancer assays

Postdoc positions: Candidates must hold a PhD degree in genetics, genomics, developmental biology, or relevant field. The ideal candidate should have strong interests in gene regulation in craniofacial and/or placental development. Preferences will be given to motivated candidates with experience in mouse genetics and/or computational genomics, but highly motivated candidates with alternate experience in biology-related areas are also encouraged to apply.

Technician positions: Candidates must have a BS degree in biology or a related field. Under the supervision of the PI, a technician will learn basic molecular biology experiments (e.g. DNA extraction, PCR, and cell culture) and mouse colony management. A technician will also be expected to assist in ordering and setting up the laboratory

The successful applicant will start in the fall/winter of 2024 and be prepared to commit to the position for at least two years

Graduate student positions:  We are seeking motivated graduate students from one of the 12 graduate programs within the Division of Biology & Biomedical Sciences. Please contact Aki to discuss potential rotation projects.

Undergraduate positions:  We welcome undergraduate students who want to pursue their research in either graduate or medical school. Please send your CV and a research statement describing your interests and experiences. Generic emails will not be answered.
