Meet what you feel.
Tap is a simple practice for meeting everyday emotions with awareness instead of avoidance.
Built around rhythmic tapping, focused breathing, and guided reflection, Tap creates a few intentional moments to notice what you're feeling, stay present with it, and move through it.

Our Mission
Our mission is to help people build the everyday skill of meeting emotions with awareness instead of avoidance.
Modern life often encourages us to distract ourselves, suppress uncomfortable feelings, or push through them as quickly as possible. Yet research increasingly suggests that emotional well-being grows not from avoiding difficult experiences, but from learning how to be with them.
Tap was created to make that practice approachable.
By combining rhythmic movement, mindful attention, focused breathing, and guided reflection, Tap offers a simple space to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and discover that difficult emotions can be acknowledged, understood, and allowed to pass.
Meet the Team
Randy Luu, MD — Creator
Randy Luu is an Internal Medicine physician who has practiced mindfulness and meditation for over a decade. His journey began through daily meditation, dharma talks, contemplative reading, and structured mindfulness programs, including a self-compassion course designed for physicians.
Through both personal experience and years of caring for patients, he has come to appreciate that emotional well-being often begins with a simple skill: learning to notice our inner experience without immediately trying to change it.
Beyond patient care, Randy is involved in medical education, quality improvement, and physician wellness. He leads his department's Innovation Working Group and serves as its Social Media and Depression Lead, with a focus on improving healthcare delivery and supporting mental health.
He created Tap to offer a simple, approachable way for people to pause during difficult moments, reconnect with themselves, and practice meeting emotions with greater awareness, presence, and self-compassion.
Max Sanchez — Product Designer
Max Sanchez is a designer rooted in traditional visual art who is passionate about creating accessible, intuitive digital experiences that thoughtfully bridge cultural heritage and contemporary design.
Previously, Max led the end-to-end design of the suite artwork for Strava's Sweat With Pride Challenge, creating the badge and cover artwork that engaged more than 400,000 participants worldwide.
For Tap, Max found inspiration in the graceful movement of Buddhist prayer flags and the quiet simplicity of Zen aesthetics. Captivated by the way the flags dance with the wind, he reinterpreted their symbolism through a contemporary geometric lens. The resulting logo transforms an ancient cultural motif into a clean, modern mark that evokes movement, mindfulness, and human connection.
How This App Came to Be
The idea for Tap began nearly six years ago in Randy's primary care office.
As a busy Internal Medicine physician, his days were filled with back-to-back patient visits, overflowing inboxes, and the constant responsibility of caring for others. Like many people, his first instinct during stressful moments was to push difficult emotions aside so he could keep moving through the day.
Over time, he noticed something that research in psychology has consistently supported: the more we try to avoid or suppress difficult emotions, the more they tend to persist.
What helped wasn't trying to force those feelings away—it was learning to turn toward them with curiosity, awareness, and acceptance.
That experience became the foundation for Tap.
The app's illustrated environments were inspired by Randy's travels through Nepal and Mongolia. Peaceful monasteries, Himalayan peaks, Mongolian steppes, colorful prayer flags, and traditional art helped shape Tap's calming visual aesthetic. To complement these environments, four original ambient soundscapes were created exclusively for the app, inspired by the landscapes and traditional musical influences of the Himalayan region and the Mongolian steppes.
Tap was created as a simple space to pause, reconnect with difficult emotions, and practice meeting them with awareness instead of avoidance. It isn't about making feelings disappear—it's about discovering that they can be faced, understood, and allowed to pass.
Why Tap Works
Tap is an evidence-informed wellness practice that draws on research in mindfulness, emotion science, and self-regulation.
Rather than trying to eliminate emotions, Tap encourages users to notice what they're feeling, stay present with the experience, and allow emotions to unfold naturally.
Research suggests that:
• Naming emotions can reduce their intensity and support emotional regulation.
• Acceptance-based approaches—including mindfulness and other evidence-informed practices—often lead to healthier emotional outcomes than suppressing difficult feelings.
• Rhythmic movement and focused breathing can help support the body's natural stress-regulation systems.
• Emotions naturally rise, change, and settle over time, and learning to stay present with them is associated with greater emotional well-being.
Tap brings these ideas together into a simple, approachable daily practice.
Tap is not therapy or medical treatment. It is a self-guided wellness app intended to support emotional awareness and everyday well-being.
