Our Mission

To help people pause, reset, and move through the day with intention—using simple mantras as a guide.

In a world full of noise, distraction, and constant demands on our attention, even a small moment of awareness can shift how we experience our day.

Mantra is built around a simple practice: choosing one mantra for the day—a phrase you intentionally return to throughout the day to stay aligned with how you want to show up.

Sometimes a single phrase is enough to bring you back to yourself—and gently shift the course of your day.

Meet the Team

Randy Luu, MD — Creator

Randy Luu is an Internal Medicine physician who has practiced mindfulness and meditation for over a decade. His journey began through daily meditation, dharma talks, contemplative reading, and structured programs—including a self-compassion program designed for physicians.

Through both personal experience and clinical practice, he has seen how powerful simple tools—like using a mantra to stay aligned with intention—can help cultivate greater presence, mindfulness, gratitude, compassion, the ability to let go, and joy in everyday life.

Beyond patient care, Randy is involved in medical education and quality improvement. He leads his department's Innovation Working Group and serves as Social Media and Depression Lead. His work focuses on improving workflows, promoting evidence-based medicine, and advancing mental health care delivery.

He created Mantra to make mindfulness practical—simple, accessible, and usable in everyday life.

Max Sanchez — Product Designer

Max Sanchez is a designer rooted in traditional visual art who is passionate about creating accessible, intuitive digital experiences that thoughtfully weave cultural heritage into modern design.

He previously led the end-to-end design of the suite artwork for Strava's Sweat With Pride Challenge, creating the badge and cover artwork that engaged more than 400,000 users.

For Mantra, Max drew inspiration from Japanese minimalism and Zen aesthetics, embracing principles of simplicity, balance, and intentionality. The logo was inspired by a deeply personal experience after witnessing a moon halo for the first time—a moment that evoked a profound sense of peace and wonder. Influenced by the harmony and symbolism of East Asian emblems, he reinterpreted these visual traditions into a contemporary logo that reflects tranquility, mindfulness, and presence.

How This App Came to Be

This app didn't begin as a tech idea.

It began with sticky notes.

In Randy's office drawer were small reminders written on Post-it notes:

They were simple phrases meant to bring perspective during long clinic days.

Medicine is meaningful work—but it can also be demanding. Between packed schedules, difficult cases, and constant pressures, it's easy to lose sight of what matters most: health, time, relationships, and compassionate care.

One practice that consistently helped was setting a daily mantra—something to return to throughout the day to stay aligned with intention.

Over time, a simple idea emerged:

What if this practice didn't live only on sticky notes?

What if technology—so often a source of distraction—could instead support this practice?

That idea became Mantra—a small digital space designed to help you pause, reset, return to your mantra, and move through your day with intention.

Why Mantras Work

A mantra is a short phrase used to focus attention and guide awareness.

Across contemplative traditions—from Buddhist meditation to modern psychology—intentional phrases have long been used to anchor the mind and cultivate emotional balance.

Research suggests that mindfulness and loving-kindness practices can help reduce stress, increase positive emotions, and strengthen social connection.

Mantras work by gently redirecting attention.

When the mind is pulled into stress, distraction, or rumination, a simple phrase can bring us back to the present moment.

A mantra doesn't need to be complicated.

Sometimes a single phrase is enough.

Stay present.

Be kind.

Breathe.

Over time, these small reminders can gently shift how we move through the day—and how we show up for ourselves and others.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I set a mantra?

Create your own mantra or choose one from the available categories.

How do reminders work?

You can have one active reminder at a time for your current mantra. After a reminder fires, you may set another reminder if you'd like.

What is "Let the Universe Decide"?

This option randomly schedules your reminder later in the day so you don't know exactly when you'll be prompted to return to your mantra.

Can I change my mantra?

Yes. Delete your current mantra and choose another one for the day.

Can I view previous mantras?

Yes. Your completed daily mantras are available in the History section.

Is my information stored online?

No. Your mantras, favorites, history, reminder preferences, and settings remain on your device unless you voluntarily submit a mantra for possible inclusion in a future version of the app.

Privacy Policy

Effective Date: June 2026

Mantra is built to respect your privacy. The app has no accounts, analytics, advertising, or tracking, and never sells your information. The only time anything leaves your device is if you choose to use the optional Submit a Mantra feature described below.

Your data stays on your device

Everything you create—including your mantras, history, favorites, reminder preferences, and settings—is stored only on your device using local storage. It is never sent to us or any third party, except for a mantra you deliberately share through the optional Submit a Mantra feature described below.

No accounts or login

You do not need to create an account or provide any personal information to use Mantra.

No analytics or tracking

The app does not use analytics, advertising identifiers, or tracking technologies of any kind.

Notifications

If you enable reminders, they are scheduled locally on your device. No reminder content is sent over the internet.

Supportive resources

If the app notices language that may suggest distress, it may show a gentle, optional message with a crisis support number. This check happens entirely on your device. Nothing you type is recorded, stored, or transmitted.

Submitting a mantra

Mantra includes an optional Submit a Mantra feature. If you choose to use it, the mantra you write is sent to the app's creator through a third-party form service (Google Forms) so it can be reviewed for possible inclusion in a future version of the app.

This happens only when you tap Submit. Your submission includes only the mantra text you enter—no name or other personal details—and you can use the rest of the app without ever submitting a mantra.

Deleting your data

You can clear your saved mantra history at any time from Settings. Removing the app from your device deletes all locally stored data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will appear within the app and on this website.
