Infusing AI and Automation for Smart Agriculture (A3) through Future Workforce Research and Extension Training
What this project is about?
Overview: This project offers undergraduate students research and extension experiences in sustainable agricultural systems with innovative agricultural technologies including data science and artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), robotics and automations. The mentors will help undergraduates acquire knowledge of and skills in using innovative agricultural technologies, preparing them for the next-generation intelligent agriculture workforce and graduate study.
Objectives:
1) develop undergraduates’ knowledge of and skills in using IoT, AI, UV, and automation, and data analytics in agriculture;
2) train students with extension experience and professional development through seminars, workshops, and field trips;
3) attract more undergraduates to join graduate programs and enter the agricultural workforce;
4) extend REEU training results to local farms and agriculture industries.
$4000 Stipend
Travel support and on-campus housing for non-local students
Meal allowances (Amount TBD)

Cross-site poster sessions with students from other REU programs

Eligibility:
Enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at a four-year university or community college.
Undergraduate participants: U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or permanent residents of the United States.
Currently pursuing a degree in STEM, Agriculture, or related field of study.
Completed at least first year with cumulative grade point average of 3 or higher.
