We are a public service organization, not ROTC. There is no service commitment.
The US Coast Guard Auxiliary University Program (AUP) is dedicated to developing future leaders. Drawing upon maritime tradition, the program prepares university students for professional success by emphasizing leadership and seamanship to build operational proficiency. This is achieved by having students volunteer in support of US Coast Guard missions, such as search and rescue, environmental protection, and boating safety. Members receive free training and are eligible to apply for Internships with the Coast Guard. The AUP is a public service organization allowing graduates to freely pursue service in the Coast Guard or achieve success in related fields.
Because the Coast Guard Auxiliary is structured around local operational unit known as flotillas, any student wishing to join the AUP must also become a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary itself by enrolling in a flotilla. We recommend you join a flotilla you see yourself being able to regularly participate in, whether its a flotilla near your school or one while at home on breaks.
The AUP Remote Collaborative Unit was created for students interested in participating in the AUP that don't have a physical presence at their school. Through cooperation with a nearby flotilla, students can further develop operational and leadership skills.
The Remote Collaborative Unit (RCU) offers a pathway for highly motivated students across the country to gain valuable experience and insight into the Coast Guard's mission, even if their campus doesn't host a traditional unit. The RCU breaks down geographical barriers, allowing you to begin the AUP's focused training in related skills and leadership. You'll collaborate with your flotilla to complete hands-on operational requirements, ensuring you develop the real-world proficiency that translates directly to success in an OCS application. This is your chance to start building a Coast Guard resume and skillset now.
