Overview:
Pioneering researches on compact torus (CT) have been historically conducted in both the United States and Japan. The US-J CT workshops have been held to develop the researches for a long time. Recently, the CT-derived innovative and alternative concepts (IAC) for fusion reactor have been progressed. Therefore, this workshop on the IAC as an extension of previous CT-workshop has been initiated. The scope of the workshop includes, in addition to the high-beta plasma physics in the CT research field, magnetized target fusion (MTF), fueling, magnetic flux injection, plasma sources such as application tools for simulating ELM-like pulsed heat loads, and so on.
It will be an opportunity to discuss the direction of progress in the IAC, and to share research results and new ideas of the IAC and plasma sources as application tools for fusion devices. This workshop is also expected to reinvigorate and promote the activities of the US-J IAC research community.
