What is this?
This interview reviews your N-400 application. The questions asked will be about your answers from the N-400 form you previously completed.
Purpose:
To understand your ability to speak and understand English
To make sure you understood the questions on the N-400
To allow you to change answers on the N-400 if your information has changed
To allow you to fill in unanswered questions on the N-400
What to expect:
Prior to the interview you will be placed under oath.
The questions will then cover information on, but not limited to:
Personal information
Physical attributes
Family history
Relationship history
Military background
Education and employment history
Travel abroad information
Residential information
Immigration history
Legal history
What is this?
This interview will be your actual citizenship test. The questions asked will cover information about the American government.
Purpose:
To test your knowledge about the American Government
Versions of the civics test:
First, there are 2 versions of the Civics test: 2008 version and 2020 version.
How do you know which one you will take?
2008 version:
If you filed your N-400 form before December 1, 2020 you will take this test.
If you filed your N-400 form on or after March 1, 2021 you will also take this test.
2020 version:
If you filed your N-400 application on or after December 1, 2020 and before March 1, 2021 AND your Naturalization Interview was before April 19, 2021 you will have the option to take the 2020 version or the 2008 version.
What to expect:
2008 version:
The questions on this test will be asked by an officer that is assigned to you. In other words, it is an oral test.
The officer will ask you up to 10 questions, you must answer 6 questions correctly to pass.
The 10 questions will be randomly picked from the 100 questions provided for the 2008 test.
2020 version:
The questions on this test will be asked by an officer that is assigned to you. In other words, it is an oral test.
The officer will ask you 20 questions, you must answer 12 questions correctly to pass.
The 20 questions will be randomly picked from the 128 questions provided for the 2020 test.
On both versions of the test, you will be required to complete a reading and writing exam. More information on these tests can be found here.
