Dr. Urmila Shrawankar is a distinguished academician, researcher and administrator she is a Former Director and Professor, School of Computer Science & Engineering, Ramdeobaba University (RBU), Nagpur, Maharashtra, India. With an illustrious career spanning teaching, research, administration, and innovation, she has made significant contributions to computer engineering education and research at national and international levels.
Dr. Urmila earned her Ph.D. in Computer Science & Engineering from Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University and M.Tech. in Computer Science & Engineering from RTM Nagpur University. Her broad research interests include High Performance Computing, Advanced Operating Systems, Distributed and Parallel Computing, Cloud Computing, Real-Time Computing, Algorithms, and Assistive Technologies.
A recipient of numerous accolades, Dr. Urmila has been honored with the Best Teacher Award, two Best M.Tech. Thesis Awards, and four Best Paper Awards. She has also excelled as a Coordinator for the Direct-to-Student (D2S) and Quality Enhancement in Engineering Education (QEEE) programs initiated by IIT Madras, demonstrating her commitment to enhancing engineering education quality.
She is a prolific author, having written seven books, twenty-five book chapters, and 200+ research papers published in highly reputed international journals and conferences, including Elsevier, Springer, Wiley, Taylor & Francis, Inderscience, IGI Global, HELIX, and IEEE. She holds 10 granted patents, with an additional 8 patents published and under hearing. Her professional achievements have earned her inclusion in the prestigious Marquis Who’s Who in the World.
Dr. Urmila has received two RGSTC research grants, an International Travel Grant from DST, Government of India, to present her research at a Springer conference in Manchester, UK (2010), a UGC Minor Research Project Grant, and support from IIT Bombay for IEEE TENSYMP 2022 conference publication.
She actively contributes to the academic community as an Editorial Board Member and International Advisory Board Member of several journals and serves as a reviewer for numerous peer-reviewed journals and reputed international conferences. She has played key roles in many international conferences worldwide as a Core Organizing Committee Member, Technical Program Committee Member, Special Session Chair and Session Chair.
Dr. Urmila is a Senior Member of IEEE and ACM, and a Life Member of CSI, ISTE, and IE, in addition to memberships in IAENG and other professional bodies. Under her guidance, 80+ undergraduate (BE/BTech) project groups, 70+ postgraduate (M.Tech.) scholars, and one ME (by Research) scholar have successfully completed their work. She has supervised five Ph.D. scholars to completion, with six more currently pursuing research under her supervision.
Her series of video lectures are broadcast on UGC’s Gyandarshan National Doordarshan Channel, further extending her impact on higher education across the country.
In addition to her academic and research excellence, Dr. Urmila Shrawankar has held several key administrative leadership roles and continues to serve various universities as a member of numerous statutory and academic committees, including R&D Committees, Boards of Research, IQAC, Boards of Studies, Faculty Selection Committees, Affiliation Committees, Curriculum Development Committees, and many others.
