Founded in 2022, the University of Rochester Learn To Be Chapter strives to support underserved students across our community and world. Unfortunately, the Rochester City School District has struggled to prepare it's students for standardized tests, college and the world, having some of the lowest graduation rates in the state and country. Contributing to this are factors of overwhelmingly high poverty levels, unusually high racial segregation, trauma, disability and a lack of English skills. However, the emergence of the coronavirus pandemic in 2019 prompted a new style of learning, including virtual and distance learning. Thanks to Learn To Be, tutors from anywhere can connect to more students than ever before by using a virtual platform. Funded by donors and taught by volunteers like you, Learn To Be is completely free to promote equity and opportunity.Â
