Scope
Cities are complex living systems where people, places, and technologies interact through dynamic networks of mobility, communication, and exchange. The rapid rise of AI, from large-scale automation and algorithmic management to generative and agentic AI systems, is fundamentally reshaping urban networks. This session aims to explore how AI is transforming the dynamics of urban life by bringing together researchers from computational social science, urban studies, and AI research to examine how human–AI interactions are reorganizing urban mobility networks, employment networks, and information flows.
We welcome submissions on topics including but not limited to:
AI-mediated urban behavior and access to opportunity
Hybrid human–AI network dynamics and emergent urban outcomes
Urban information, platforms, and governance to improve cities in the age of AI
Methods, measurement, and data for auditing AI’s urban impact
We especially encourage work grounded in real urban applications, including transportation and multimodal mobility systems, navigation and routing, recommender systems for places and services, on-demand labor platforms, emergency response and urban resilience, public health and epidemic preparedness, housing and neighborhood change, energy and sustainability, and urban information platforms.
Accepted submissions will be invited to give a 10-minute presentation during the satellite and to discuss exciting ideas with senior researchers and other participants. This session will not have archival proceedings. We welcome submissions that are recently published, under peer review (including preprints), or works in progress. We ask that submissions do not duplicate an oral presentation elsewhere at NetSci 2026.
