The LIRR is currently old, outdated and slow. Nonstop construction makes it a headache for all who use it.

Compare the LIRR to a monorail. Monorails run much quicker and smaller sizes can make more frequent stops for more continuous transport and less waiting times.
Traffic- The Nightmare
Long Island traffic slows down most peoples day substantially. Further, owning a car is very expensive and simply not an option for economically disadvantaged people.
Downtown and Local- More Walk Less Drive
Downtown business developments created around LIRR or monorail stops would solve many issues including traffic and housing. Apartments and local businesses would require less urban sprawl and more concise and simple ways of living without the traffic headache. Simply hop on the train to and from work and walk home a couple of minutes later, and maybe even stop for a quick bite at a local eatery, too!
The Bus System- Is it Necessary?
Bus schedules often vary widely, and are a large greenhouse gas headache. More consistent transportation is necessary without the greenhouse emissions contributing to global warming.

Terra-farming and renewable energy is the way of the future. Large farms can be replaced with locally owned grow operations and farmers markets can beat out factory farming. With no carbon emissions, safely produced energy, food and transportation for all will make Long Island the ideal metropolitan as well as suburban paradise it is meant to be!
