Levine Museum of the New South

Working with the Levine museum of the New South and multiple faculty partners

  • Neighborhood Stories and Place-making: Students will conduct historical research and compile oral histories to develop new neighborhood stories and digital content to build on its Know CLT exhibit. This is very hands-on and field-based. This might include oral histories of community leaders as well. There is an important conversation in Charlotte about the relationship between real estate development, place-making, and historical connections. This project might include connecting developers to community and to history under the ground as that land is developed. Students will research effective ways to infuse neighborhood history into contemporary development plans.

    • Contact: Karen Sutton, Community Engagement Manager. First project launches this Spring in Grier Heights. Review of that project with students. Every project should be different. Listening to communities. Begins with Ms. Sutton and then connect to communities.

    • Contact: Franky Abbott

  • Rebranding: Students will work with the LMNS as it undergoes the process of rebranding. Students will examine current trends and conduct market research in the area of brand identity.

    • Courtney Whiteside

  • Digital Content Evaluation: Students will work with museum staff to evaluate digital content and digital exhibit engagement. Students will assess the effectiveness of the KnowCLT app and develop evaluation protocol. Students might also investigate existing digital platforms and best practices in online engagement for this project.

  • School program evaluation and development: The LMNS is revamping its programs for school-aged children. Students will work with museum staff to understand what educators need from the museum, and to develop and deliver these programs.
