White Rock Lake Ghost

“Hey, could you turn some music on?” Amber asked me as we were driving. “It’s a little too quiet right now.”
We had been driving the last 30 minutes in complete darkness towards White Rock Lake. You see, Amber and I had begun dating a few weeks ago. We haven’t had any alone time, since both of our parents are the type to bust down the door if there was the opposite gender in the room with us. So naturally, we decided to drive to the local “make out spot” near Dallas, White Rock Lake. Talking for the last little bit had filled the silence in, but as we drew closer to the lake, our conversation drifted off.
“Alright, lemme see what’s on right now.” As I turned the dial trying to find a station, static filled the car. It didn’t matter that I put it on the most popular station in the area, there was nothing but static. “I guess it’s too late for any station to be playing. Weird.”
Thankfully we resumed our normal conversation. The air seemed to thicken for a moment before we got to the spot, and parked next to the lake.
As I leaned over towards the passenger side, I saw Amber look past me and gasp. There was a rap at the window. Turning back around, I jumped in my seat. There was a sopping wet girl wearing a long white dress standing outside the window. She looked scared and lost.
I rolled down the window a bit and asked, “Hey, are you okay?”
She didn’t seem to notice that I said anything. She just responded very faintly with, “Can you drive me to the nearest pay-phone? There’s been an accident.”
I looked at this girl and while she surprised me at first, she seemed like she was in trouble. I knew Amber would agree with me that we needed to make sure this girl was okay. So I unlocked the back door and asked her to get in. Her pale face smiled a slight amount, but she seemed like she was in pain.
So we drove for the next thirty minutes, with Amber trying to ask the girl questions, getting no responses from her. Amber finally gave up, turned back towards the front and started to nod off. It was late and without any music, it was too easy to fall asleep.
I saw a payphone ahead. “Hey ma’am here’s a place you can call someone. Do you want us to stay wi-” Turning around, I saw there was no one in the backseat, just one small puddle of water and the smell of something decaying.
This story drew inspiration from the ghost story of "The Lady of White Rock Lake". White Rock Lake is a real lake near Dallas, TX that is supposed to have some lady wandering around, asking for rides to either payphones or to her family's house. When whoever picks her up gets to these locations, she'll disappear without a trace. In some stories, her backstory is that a big group (including her) were boating on the lake, when disaster struck. Their boat sank, with everyone aboard drowning. Now she wanders around asking people for help. Maybe she's someone who doesn't understand that she is dead? Who knows? All I know is that I would for sure be very scared if a woman dressed in white asked me for a ride in the middle of the night.
