DKG Upsilon members are a very active group. Below are some examples of activities both inside and outside of meetings that display & contribute to our education, fellowship and service.
Each of our meetings features a guest speaker who provides inspirational and educational information to our group. Our speakers have included: DKG officers, community members, educational leaders.
Food donations are voluntary, but members are very generous in their contributions. Food is given to to the local CHEW program, who supplies us with a list of their current needs. Items also go to the food pantry of the Enon Chapel Baptist Church who allows us to use their fellowship hall for meetings and activities.
Launched in response to the setbacks caused by COVID-19, the GIRLS Fund works to bolster girls' education in Africa. This fund provides flexible financial support to address critical barriers to girls' education and strengthen global expertise in this field. By focusing on secondary education, the GIRLS Fund aims to help all girls complete their schooling, acquire essential life skills, and challenge harmful social norms.
To supplement our scholarship fund, an auction is held at each meeting. Auction items, new or gently used, are generously donated by our members and are a very popular part of our gatherings.
Upsilon participates in the Grant-in-aid Scholarship funds, established to develop & encourage educational opportunities for DKG members and other eligible participants. Upsilon gives a yearly scholarship to a deserving young woman of our community going into the field of education.
A popular & profitable fundraiser for our chapter is our yard sale. All sale items are contributed by our members, with a wonderful and plentiful variety. The sale is held in the fellowship hall where meetings take place. All profits go toward our scholarship fund.
To promote fellowship & camaraderie among our Upsilon sisters, periodic get togethers are held outside of our regular meetings. We get to know each other better as we enjoy good food and good company.
Upsilon members often participate in various scholarship fundraising activities such as this one, selling homemade cards at the Women's Food Truck & Vendor Market.
Upsilon memers gathered to prepare 160 Welcome "goodie" Bags for new Onslow County teachers. Bags will be distributed, along with an Upsilon/DKG flyer, at the new teacher orientation.
