Northern Section California Interscholastic Federation (NSCIF)

All schools in Northern Section come to the Section Championships without any need to qualify and Sections are always held at West Valley High School

Open athletes run for pride, no awards are given. 

Varsity athletes are running for individual and team qualifying spots to the State Championships and individually for All-Section Honors (Top 25). 

Team State Qualifying
Divisions are Based on School Enrollment Size
- D3 = 1250+
- D4 = 600-1249
- D5 = 400 - 599
- D6 = 399  and under
Northern Section Only recognizes a D6 (1-399), however these schools and individuals are scored in D5 for state qualifying purposes. At this Section meet Div 6/Div 5 are vying for 1 team position to the State Championship and that team's top 7 runners will compete in the State Championships.

State Championship Individual Qualifying from Section Champs

Div 5 will take up to five individuals provided they finish in the top eight places within their division. These 5 are the first 5 once the qualifying team has its individuals removed. 

In the example below UPREP won the Section title and qualified a team to State. Therefore we remove UPREP runners from the Invididual qualifying. You can see that the Top 5 (non-UPREP) Individuals that also still finished in the Top 8 within D5/D6 were the runners from:
1. Williams 2. Hope 3. Central Valley 4. Durham 5. Etna

These 5 would move on to the State Championships as Individual qualifiers.
