Getting to know your neighbors only takes an idea and an invitation.
If you have an idea for an event to bring neighbors together, we're excited to help you make it happen! Board game nights, bike rides, potlucks, dog walks, happy hours, museum visits, street clean-ups, arts and crafts time, backyard bonfires, trying a new restaurant -- there is no limit.
Here are a few steps to help you plan your first event:
1. Make a Plan
Decide what type of event you want to host and coordinate the date, time, and location. It can be helpful to keep events accessible, inclusive, and focused on connection:
Free or low-cost events can incentivize more folks to join.
Public places can make people feel comfortable attending for the first time or alone.
As the event planner, be sure to consider how reservations, supplies, ticket purchases, or other coordination tasks will be handled.
2. Fill out the Event Form
Our event calendar is open for any community member who wants to host a gathering. Shortly after filling out the Host an Event form, your event will be added to the calendar. We may also include your event in our emails to help spread the word (more on that below).
We're happy to promote events that have an age restrictions, maximum group size, or require purchases, but we ask that all events are open to anyone interested and any RSVPs are handled on a first-come, first-served basis.
3. Spread the Word
Here are some ideas for how to promote your event:
Reach out to neighbors to personally invite them
Post on Discord (multiple reminders can be helpful)
Write a blurb for the monthly email
Once or twice a year, we post flyers and coordinate door-knocking days ahead of large events, like the Dayton Block Party. If you'd like to learn more about event promotion, reach out to upperfremontneighbors@gmail.com.
