Will my friends think I'm weird? - Don't they already?
Will there be people wearing speedos? .. .Unfortunately, Its been seen, and it's not pretty.
What should I bring? A pumpkin, of course, - bigger than your head (if you can find one that large!), sharp carving tools, your favorite dish to pass if staying for lunch, and most importantly a good sense of humor. The contest this year for best dish to pass is "something hot, that you can eat with a spoon" (if you plan to stay for lunch)
Is this a popular thing to do on the east coast? Are you kidding, where do you think the idea for pumpkin spice came from?
PROVIDED: Boat, bathrooms, life jackets, waterskies, peer pressure, ample bad jokes, medical waiver forms, picnic tables, garbage cans, and unlimited supplies of very, very cold water!. Mental health counseling not provided (speedos). Hot showers will be available in the changing room first come first serve basis.
OK, what is this, really? ... another lame excuse to water ski before the water freezes, of course!
Do I have to wear the pumpkin on my head? Um - yes ! - , the name ! Be sure to bring a comb to make sure your hair looks good for the TV (sometimes local news shows up).
OK, I'm In - when and where is it again?: Head to the Upper Chesapeake water ski club Saturday morning - (look for blue sign @ park in yard) 295 River Road, Elkton, MD ; October 31, 2020 - arrive 8:30AM; Carve 9:00AM, Picture 10:00AM, Ski 10:30AM, dish to pass cook-off to start at 12 noon (bring your best recipe if you want to partake). This year's cook-off challenge is "something hot that you eat with a spoon".
Can I bring a friend - you betcha! We even allow people from Boston. Come have a pumpkin-spiced smashing good time.
Here is a video clip (from 2008) to get an idea what this is all about: <link>. Please note that the dates / time shown in the video clip are wrong. I did not have time to edit this year. The times or the event are correctly shown above and in the flier below, attached.
PRO TIPS: Look for the smallest pumpkin you can buy that will fit over your head. The big ones have a tendency to try and drown you. First timers are identified by pumpkins the size of small boats. Also, - big ears. Big ears are sexy according to Star Trek, and allow you to see where you are going in case your head turns around on you!. They also help drain out the water.
No need to RSVP. Just show up. If you don't think you have the guts to ski, feel free to come and laugh!. We will keep crazy on, and the boat running, just for you. - until the food is ready. Then we won't.
Ski you soon!
Rich
