My name is Noelle Madrie, in 2024 I started upcycledblooms as a way to share my passion for art in a new format. I've been making art since I was little and discovered my voice in the process. When I was around 8 years old my grandma Peets taught me how to machine sew quilts and pillowcases. By high school, I was designing costumes for musicals and hemming dresses. Recently, I learned about the ancient technique called appliqué. This is the process of cutting out fabric shapes and sewing them together to form a picture. I fell in love with making my fabric designs, so my grandma helped my art pieces come to life by giving me her unwanted scraps. Using scraps lets me play around with colors and patterns making each image pop.
Upcycledblooms combats uniformity and adds uniqueness into the world by turning scrap fabric into fun wearable or hangable artwork. I draw inspiration from the natural world for all my designs in order to preserve the natural beauty of the world. The materials that I use for my artwork are found second hand, or donated to me to combat textile waste unlike fast fashion. This includes my second hand sewing machines, fabric, buttons, threads, frames, etc. Reduce, Reuse, Upcycle!
