Our Short Term Goals

• Holding workshops and seminars to address concerns around sexual assault, sexual harassment and student wellbeing;

• Providing events that create an environment where students can be social while feeling comfortable and safe;

• Improving consent education and enhancing resources for students in accommodation and on campus;

• Providing information about the existing resources that the university has to offer for students who have been sexually harassed or assaulted.

Events to Look For

• Regular open dialogue drop-ins where members can casually socialise;

• Comedy/online performance nights to raise money;

• Consent workshop on how to support friends who have experienced sexual assault;

• Facilities information workshop to inform students of the resources available;

• Self-defence and martial arts training sessions;

• Bystander training;

• Drag trivia and other social events;

• Workshops and panels on topics such as how to identify abusive relationships and feel comfortable with being single.

The UOW Student Safety Advocacy Society acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the lands on which the University of Wollongong campuses are situated and all society events and operations occur. As a functioning society, we will continue to support all students in academic and personal hardship. One of our top priorities is to stand against exclusion, and maintain efforts to deter all discriminatory behaviour and acts towards race, heritage, belief, ideology, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression, among other minority factors that may face social inequity. Our COVID Commitment

The Student Safety Advocacy Society is committed to keeping our activities and events COVID-safe for the health, safety and security of all members. To this end, SSAS encourages our members to follow all COVID-safe practices for its activities and events, including the use of hand sanitiser, masks and social distancing, and the implementation of various online events and programs, within New South Wales and national health guidelines.

We understand that the pandemic has caused much hardship and difficulty, and we hope to provide an enriching experience to all of our members. SSAS kindly requests that students comply with all rules imposed during its events, and that they remain at home when feeling unwell, asked to isolate by an official health authority, or return a positive RAT or PCR test.
