What is uOttawa Nordiq?

We are the uOttawa Gee-Gees Nordic Ski Team, aiming to provide students with an opportunity to ski competitively and join the region’s large and passionate ski community on some of the nation’s finest trails.  Ottawa’s snowy winters and uOttawa’s proximity to ideal training grounds is hard to beat.

The Ottawa-Gatineau area is one of the best places in Canada to ski competitively and go to school. uOttawa is the World's largest English-French bilingual university, offering outstanding programs to students in English, French, or both languages, and we have a bilingual team.  Veuillez nous excuser pour le manque actuel de contenu en français sur ce site. ... nous y travaillons !  La plupart de nos entraîneurs parlent français, alors n'hésitez pas à communiquer avec nous en français.

Ontario University Varsity nordic teams offer strong competition, and an impressive local competition schedule allows busy student-athletes to compete without excessive travel, time, and expense.

Beyond our training and racing, we are also committed to showcasing a popular and accessible winter sport to the community through outreach activities.

2023 uOttawa Nordiq Annual Stair Challenge IS BACK!

Fundraising is critical to reducing barriers to participation for our student-athletes. An important goal for our team is to make cross country skiing accessible.

Last year’s Stair Challenge helped subsidize team uniforms and pay for strength training sessions in the Gee-Gees Performance gym as well as student-athlete expenses at the Ontario University Athletics championships.

This year, we’re once again raising funds to help cover student-athlete expenses for the Ontario University Athletics championships in Thunder Bay, other competitions, and strength training sessions. We don’t want cost to be a barrier to racing.

Historic Performance for our Men's team at the Ontario University Championships!

What an INCREDIBLE OUA Championships for our @uOttawageegees team at Arrowheadprovpark! In only our 4th Championship we had an inspiring team of athletes from rookies to seasoned competitors that skied to multiple podiums!

It was an historic OUAs for our men’s team: they captured the overall Men’s Bronze Medal behind the ever dominant @lakeheadskiing and ahead of our local friendly rivals, training partners, and consistent OUA podium contenders @ravensskiing. The men’s relay was nail biting and exciting and the fun and spectator friendly course! Edward Southward, @evankealey and Aidan Kirkham skied strategically and strongly and captured 2nd place behind @lakeheadskiing and ahead of @nipissingskiteam_ . Aidan Kirkham was 2nd in the 7.5 km free event and he along with Edward Southward achieved OUA All Star Status. Huntsville native @riley_degans had home-course advantage and skied to a top 20 result in the 7.5 km skate helping our men’s team finish 2nd in the points on that day. Our rookies Samuel Aslan and Alexandre Shuh had fantastic 1st time OUA races.

@emilielum, @anna.sierra.hw and @_erin_dunn_ and were back for their second OUA races and had strong performances. @britthalvorsen_ and @k8.mason raced their 1st OUAs and enjoyed the welcoming and fun atmosphere of University racing and we hope they will be back for more! Erin and Kate also achieved OUA All Star Status for their impressive racing!

This is the first OUA Championships to have para-nordic categories and we are so happy that uOttawa could participate. The ever improving @emmaarchie_ won 2 golds in the paranordic standing category (Emma raced on our able-bodied relay team too!). And we were so happy to have sit-skier @_trinity29_ join us and also win 2 golds! Both athletes combined for a paranordic relay.

Our Fundraising Stair Challenge is Back!

We use the funds raised to make skiing more accessible to all students by lowering costs of training and racing.

Every contribution, however big or small, is valuable for our team.
