GNG/ELG 5301 is required. This requirement may be waived if you have relevant Canadian work experience. Consult your faculty for your eligibility before you start the course.
Each team must include 3 to 6 students from the class.
A complete project proposal must be submitted before deadline (each semster differs). Failure to do so will result in withdrawal from the course.
A minimum of 80% in-person attendance is required. Online participation is allowed only for students located outside the Ottawa region or abroad.
Every project must be supervised by a technical advisor and partnered with a client (from industry, community, government, or university).
This is a 6-credit course, requiring approximately 240 hours of work commitment per student for the semester
The course is divided into three main components:
Team Project (80%)
Students work in groups to complete a client-based project, applying project management, research, and design skills.
Individual Assignments (10%)
Short assignments including peer evaluation and personal reflection that ensure each student demonstrates individual understanding.
Attendance & Participation (10%)
Active participation in class sessions and team activities is required to support collaboration and learning outcomes.
Throughout the course, students manage their projects from start to finish. They practice setting goals, breaking down tasks, and running sprints with Jira, while exploring different approaches such as Agile. This process teaches students how to adapt to change, solve problems collaboratively, and deliver results in real-world conditions
