"Transmission, Adaptation, and Variation in Early Medieval English Literature," a two-day conference at the University of Toronto (11-12 May 2026) brings together an international group of scholars to discuss new research on the dissemination and transformation of knowledge in England between the years 700 and 1100. This conference will reconsider the networks of influence in which early English writers participated, and it demands a revaluation of the sources, literary forms, and practices of learning and writing that inform the textual record. Speakers will share new perspectives for evaluating intellectual and cultural networks that made early English literature so transnational and culturally diverse.
