Untold ("we," "us," "our") is an anonymous emotional support platform. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and how we protect it — especially given the sensitive nature of what people share with us.
Contact: nisargvp2004@gmail.com Entity/address: Gandhinagar, Gujarat
Untold is built around anonymity. We do not require your real name, phone number, or government ID to use the core support features (AI listener, anonymous peer chat, verified listener chat). Where we do need more information — for example, to verify a listener's identity or to process a payment for a psychologist session — we collect only what's necessary for that specific purpose and keep it separate from your anonymous conversation history wherever possible.
Information you provide directly:
Anything you type or say in a chat, journal entry, mood log, or community post
Your chosen experience tags (e.g. "exam stress," "breakup") used for peer matching
If you apply to be a listener: government ID for verification, background check results, and training completion records
If you book a licensed psychologist: name, contact details, and payment information necessary to complete the booking
If you subscribe or donate: payment information, processed through our payment provider (we do not store full card numbers ourselves)
Information collected automatically:
Anonymous device/session identifiers (not linked to your real identity unless you've also created a verified listener or psychologist account)
App usage data (which features you use, crash logs, general session length) to improve the product
Approximate location (country/region only) if used to route you to region-appropriate crisis helplines
Information we deliberately do not collect:
We do not require account creation with real name or email to access core anonymous support features
We do not use advertising SDKs or third-party ad trackers
We do not sell or rent personal data to advertisers or data brokers, ever
To provide the core service: routing your message to an AI listener, anonymous peer, verified listener, or psychologist
To run automated risk detection on messages, so that if you appear to be in crisis we can immediately surface crisis resources and, where applicable, notify a human moderator
To verify listeners' identity, training, and background before they're allowed to talk with users
To process payments for subscriptions, donations, and psychologist bookings
To improve the app (aggregated, de-identified usage patterns only)
To comply with legal obligations, including responding to lawful requests from authorities where required
We do not use your conversation content to train third-party AI models beyond what's necessary to generate the AI listener's real-time response, and any AI provider we use is contractually restricted from retaining or reusing your data for their own model training.
If our systems detect that you may be at risk of self-harm or suicide, we may:
Immediately display crisis helpline information within the app
Flag the conversation for review by a trained human moderator
In limited, serious circumstances, and where legally required or necessary to protect life, share information with emergency services or law enforcement
This is the one deliberate exception to our anonymity commitment, and it exists solely to protect user safety.
Payment processors (e.g. in-app purchases) — to process subscriptions, donations, and bookings
Licensed psychologists you choose to book — receive only what's needed to conduct your session
AI and infrastructure providers — process messages to generate responses and run risk detection, under data processing agreements
Legal/regulatory authorities — only where required by law, or in the crisis-safety circumstances described above
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers.
Anonymous chat content: retained for 90 days. unless flagged as part of a crisis escalation, in which case it's retained for 90 days for safety review purposes
Listener verification records: retained for as long as the listener is active, plus after deactivation
Payment records: retained as required by applicable financial/tax law
You can request deletion of your data at any time (see Section 9)
We encrypt data in transit and at rest, restrict access to conversation logs to authorized safety/moderation personnel only, and regularly review access controls. No system is perfectly secure, and we'll notify affected users and relevant authorities in the event of a data breach as required by law.
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
Access the data we hold about you
Request correction or deletion of your data
Withdraw consent for optional data uses
Request a copy of your data in a portable format
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at nisargvp2004@gmail.com. Because our core service is anonymous, some requests may require you to have created a listener/psychologist account to verify identity.
Untold is intended for users aged under 18, 18+. We do not knowingly collect data from users below this age. If you believe a minor has used the app, contact us at nisargvp2004@gmail.com.
If you use Untold from outside india, your information may be processed in that country. We take steps to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for any cross-border data transfer.
We'll update the "Last updated" date above when this policy changes, and notify users in-app of material changes.
