Students do not need riding experience, a horse, or riding equipment to be on the team! We accept all levels of riders to tryout for the team. Riders will have 1 group lesson per week with their designated coach. Students must be full-time to participate and in good academic standing with the university.
Each team has 2 competition weekends per semester, for a total of 4 show weekends in a calendar year. Athletes will show on Saturday and Sunday in their respective classes. Students have opportunities to advance to higher levels by obtaining points which are earned based on show placement. When a student completes a level, they have the opportunity to advance to regional, zone and national competitions.
Dues are $300 a semester. Dues cover all transportation to and from competitions (including vehicle rentals, gas and hotel fees), 1 entry fees per competition weekend, and 1 team lesson per week with the designated coach. We highly encourage all riders to work out weekly and take additional private lessons to strengthen their skills!
IHSA requires a $45 membership fee to be paid annually after you try out and make a team (this is subject to change per IHSA). Do not pay for this membership until you have been instructed by an officer to do so.
Other personal costs can include appropriate riding attire for lessons and competitions. This will be at the responsibility of the rider. Payment plans are available for team dues.
*These prices are subject to change, and are being applied to the 26-27 academic year.
What are Non-Competitive Members?
These students pay $50 in dues per year to attend socials, fundraisers, and team meetings. These students do not ride or have to complete barn hours. These students are allowed to go to shows but will not be riding or participating.
