I did another test. Installed winrar in the root of folder c:\windows\system32. Apparently, when repeating the command H:>unrar x E:\folderE\myfile.rar C:\folderC the operation run normally. Yet, when I switched off the computer and came back hours latter, I repeated the latter command and again the error "Rar is not recognized as an internal or external command". If I go to c:\windows\system32 and use DOS prompt to search for rar*.exe or unrar*.exe, nothing is found, but those files are there. I can see them with windows explorer! They are not with the hidden attribute. The winrar I am using is for 64bit and the system is Windows 10, 64 bit.

1. There is no rar command, I can only find unrar.

2. libunrar in Arch is 4.2.4. Have you tested it against version 5 of the Windows utility?

3. The fact, that 7z performed best on ext4 (even better than all unrar versions), allows the conclusion, that the unrar utility is not really optimized for Linux filesystems.

EDIT:

As a fun fact, I always found 7zip to be faster than unrar when extracting rar archives, even on Windows systems. The only reason to use the "original" unrar is, when recovery files are required. But who uses the usenet these days, anyway?

You can easily extract a .RAR file on Linux, but you're probably going to need to install the unrar package first using your package manager. To do that on a Debian or Ubuntu distribution, simply open up a terminal and type the following command:

While UnRAR.exe is a legitimate and useful tool, it can sometimes be associated with malicious activity. Some viruses and malware are known to disguise themselves as UnRAR.exe in order to avoid detection. If you find UnRAR.exe in an unexpected location (it should typically be located in C:\Program Files (x86)\JDownloader\tools\Windows\unrarw32), or if your antivirus software flags it as a threat, it may be best to remove it.

Do you want to unzip or uncompressed files with a file that has a .rar extension and you have a windows computer? But you want to do it for free without having to pay any money for expensive software? If so, read on. This is how I did it, there may be other ways, but this is the free way, not necessarily the easy way but it works.

oh let me clarify, so once rar parts are uploaded to the drives, I don't want to unrar them from the local side anymore. I want there to be a way for me to unpack them directly on google. So there won't be any write / upload being involved.

You could use rar2fs on top of rclone. this will let you stream files directly without the need to unrar them before. It does add an additional layer and you need to prewarm the cache so it works decently with rclone. But once it's set it works pretty good.

Pretty much it will show files inside the rar files without the need to open them. For example you have one big rar file (or a multiple parts rar file) in general you would need to unrar it to access the file inside. rar2fs does it on the fly, so you do not need to unrar before reading the contents. It is smart enough it allows you to seek etc. on the files inside the rar.

I apologise if this isn't the right place to ask this, but well I downloaded a game in multiple parts but couldn't extract it perfectly as i could on windows. On windows I used to just select all files and extract the 1st one but the default archive manager doesnt extract them all in one, it just extracts the 1st part which is useless. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Also tried rarlab.com's unrar 3.10 version. None can extract password

protected rar archives though password is correct as it works in

Windows..# unrar e test.rar

Encrypted file: CRC failed in test.rar (password incorrect ?)

No files to extract# unrar e -p test.rar

Enter password (will not be echoed):Reenter password:UNRAR 3.51 freeware Copyright (c) 1993-2005 Alexander RoshalEncrypted file: CRC failed in test.rar (password incorrect ?)

No files to extract

Am I only one to face this problem!---------------------------------------------------------------

Solaris 10 update 6 on x86

According to the Wikipedia:Begin Quote-----

RAR files can be created ONLY [emphasis mine] with

commercial software WinRAR, RAR, and software that

has permission from the author, Alexander Roshal.

[1] RAR for Pocket PC is the only free software for

creating RAR files.Squeez is commercial software available only for

Microsoft Windows that can read and write RAR files.

It can write RAR 1.5 and RAR 2.0 files and supports

basic encryption.[6]Third party programs that can only read (unpack)

RAR files include 7-Zip (multiplatform), IZArc

(Windows), PeaZip (Windows, Linux), Zipeg (Windows,

MacOS), and ALZip (Windows), along with the free

version of unrar (which is also available for

Linux and FreeBSD). Mac OS X readers include

Stuffit Expander, The Unarchiver and Zipeg.

Stuffit Expander is also available for Mac OS

Classic with RAR support for this platform.

-----End Quote. It is very possible that the implementation ported to

Solaris is not a complete implementation and does not

include any password features. The version available on sunfreeware.com originated at

freshmeat.net. That is probably the place to direct

your questions in this regard.Essentially, RAR is NOT free-of-charge Open Source software.

It uses proprietary algorithms and the authors hope to

make a profit from it. Any version on any platform that

you get for FREE should be immediately suspect.I would suggest that, in lieu of using RAR, that you try

using gzip instead. It compresses slightly less than RAR,

but it IS 100% free to use and it IS available on every

known variant of Unix, Windows, Mac, etc.\:-\
