The school library was filled with students, though most of them weren’t there to read. Some were skipping class, others were napping, and a few were just there for the free Wi-Fi. Only a handful were actually reading books.
One of them was a girl named Remon.
Remon loved books, and today, she had come to borrow one. When she got home, she immediately started reading. But suddenly, a strange, fog-like cloud appeared behind her.
She froze.
Then, with a quick turn of her head—
"Ahhh, finally!”
A boy emerged from the swirling fog.
”Hi, there!”
Panic surged through Remon, and without a second thought, she bolted out of her room. But before she could escape, the boy moved swiftly, blocking the door.
She opened her mouth to scream—
"Shhhh! Calm down! I'm not here to hurt you!"
Remon glared at him, still tense, but her panic eased just slightly.
"Alright, let me introduce myself," the boy said, grinning. "My name is Leo, and I'm you but from another universe! See? Don’t we look alike?"
Remon’s expression remained wary as she backed away like a cautious kitten.
"What do you want?"
"Well, I just want to be your friend!" Leo declared confidently. "And maybe invite you to travel to fictional worlds, hm?"
"Fictional worlds?"
"Yes!" His eyes sparkled with excitement. "I know you're so bored here—school, home, sleep, repeat. So, what if I told you this is your chance to experience something new? Something.. magical? Hmm? Hmm?"
Leo suddenly snaps his fingers as if he just remembered something. “Oh yeah, I heard a boy in your school passed away recently, right?”
Remon stiffens. “Eh? Yeah…?”
Leo grins, tilting his head. “You could meet him again, y’know.”
Remon blinks, her grip tightening on the book she’s holding. “What?”
“I might have a way to take you there…” He leaned in slightly, watching her expression. “But are you sure you wanna see what’s on the other side?”
Remon hesitates, staring at him with wide eyes. “That’s… Is that even possible?”
Leo chuckles, stepping back with a playful shrug. “You look interested~ But don’t worry, I won’t force you… yet.”
Remon finally relaxed, curiosity sparking in her eyes. Leo, sensing her interest, kept pushing.
“Yeah, so we can meet him. Though… It’s a little different. He’s already dead, of course, but he got a second chance. This time, he’s living in a world that feels familiar to him and only him.”
Remon hesitated. “Okay… but is it safe?”
Leo tilted his head, pretending to think. “Hmm, now that’s a good question… but yeah, totally.”
“...Okay.”
“So… wanna come? Don’t worry, I promise it’ll be safe. And trust me, it’s an experience worth having.”
Remon took a deep breath before nodding. “Sure.”
“GREAT!” Leo clapped his hands together. “Before we go, though, let me explain a few things you need to know. First, there are twins. It's us! Twins are when at least two versions of the same person from different alternate universes meet!"
"Two of the same person?" Remon seems confused.
"Yup! And when the twins meet, Clock People will appear in a place we need to visit first—the White Space. They’re living proof that the Twins are truly the same person. But… they’re not like us. At birth, they feel nothing, no emotions, and yet, they hold terrifying power. They can destroy without a word, without even looking." Leo enthusiastically explaining.
“…That sounds dangerous."
"It is. That’s why, before entering the Void World, the Twins must train them. Otherwise, their power runs wild. Once a clock manifests on their body, it means they’re finally stable and ready to become a Void Traveler."
"Okay.. what is a Void Traveler?"
"That’s what the Twins and the Clock Person become once they step into the Void World. Their job is to guide the deceased—those who died with unfulfilled dreams. These souls wander without memories, clinging only to their names and faint familiarity. Travelers help them remember before their time runs out… so they can finally rest."
"Void World... But isn’t the Void World dangerous? "
"Which is why Void Travelers need the Clock People at their side. Only with them can they survive that realm."
"And what is the White Space?”
"That’s where Clock People are born. It’s an in-between place—between our Real World and the Void World. Travelers gather there before their journey begins, with their Clocks. Soo.. do you understand?”
Remon gave a half-hearted nod.
"I know, I know.. so confusing! But don’t worry, I’ll explain it again if you need me to later."
"Aight… so, when should we go—"
"Right now, of course!"
"Wha-wait—!"
Before she could finish, Remon was already being pulled into the portal.
