Frequently Asked Questions

We estimate that your appointment should last no longer than 2 -2.5 hours.

This is only a one-time visit, if you wish! We may invite you to come back a couple weeks later, but it's always up to you! Once your session(s) is complete, you will not be asked to do anything further.

The entirety of the study will take place on the University of New Orleans Campus in the Geology & Psychology building. Need help locating us? Find more information here.

We compensate each family $50-100, plus extra compensation for travel reimbursement. We can also provide transportation for you, if desired. Please contact us to discuss travel arrangements. $100 for all activities and $50 for some activities.

We understand that children can grow tired or bored with activities and want to quit. In order to make sure your child is entertained and that your time is being used well, we provide children with plenty of opportunities for breaks, snacks, positive feedback, etc. However, if a child is adamant that they no longer wish to complete the study, we can end the session. We want this to be a positive experience for your family!

Siblings are welcome! We will have a dedicated play area for siblings to hang while your participating child completes the study and during any time you are busy with a task of your own. Trained research assistants will be there to watch over and entertain them during these times.

Most research is confidential. This means that we will take your answers, how your child does on games, and any other general information and then separate it from your name. We then group the results together with other children that are similar to your child and analyze these results together. This way, we may be able to say something like, "6-year-olds in New Orleans are very good at memory games!" We take these results to conferences, community leaders, and make them available for other researchers by publishing results. Unless you choose to disclose that you participated, the public will never know that you were one of our participants. We like to keep your specific results between you and us!
