Tomé Hill Project Archive at the UNM-Valencia Campus Library presents an archaeological study & historical documentation detailing the history of Tomé since the late 1700s. The archive offers a unique snapshot of Tomé heritage through a collection of oral histories, genealogies and census data, photographs, maps, and music.Explore the complete 29 disc-set of audio recordings of Edwin Berry singing and sharing stories and approximately 50 hours of original interviews with six founding families. The recordings were made from 1979-1981 and digitized for preservation in 2001. In addition to the oral histories, the tapes include early alabados y canticos collected by Father Jean Baptiste Ralliere, who served as parish priest for Tomé from 1858-1915.

The purpose of this project was to produce an archaeological survey of the area, compose a nomination to the State and National Registers, and establish a cultural resources management plan for the Tomé Hill historical site, including the plans for walking trails, a visitors’ center and sculpture at the base of the hill. The resulting report was the first step toward applying for the designation of the Tomé Hill to the National Register of Historical Places, joining the Tomé church and the old jail already on the registry.

The Valencia County Archival Collaborative (VCAC) is a relationship among entities interested in preserving the unpublished historical records of the diverse and often underrepresented residents of Valencia County. The initial collaborative members are the Belén Public Library, the Los Lunas Public Library, the Valencia County Historical Society, the UNM-Valencia Campus Library, and University of New Mexico Digital Collections.
The VCAC seeks to foster a participatory historical experience and diversify the rich tapestry of the archives in our state. This collaborative incorporates community input in the processes of exhibit creation, presentations, and highlighting the perspectives of our community.
