“For the passionate, intuitive, innovative and inventive robotics enthusiast”
Established in 2005, the UNM Robotics Society (formerly known as the UNMC Robotics Society) is one of the most active engineering societies at the University of Nottingham Malaysia. Its primary objective is to increase awareness and interest in the field of robotics among both staff and students, while providing members with opportunities to develop skills and undertake meaningful projects.
The society’s members represent diverse academic backgrounds, including Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, and related disciplines.
The UNM Robotics Society has organized various annual flagship events. One of them is the Arduino Workshop, which specifically targets students who are new to Arduino and passionate about robotics but don’t know where to start. This workshop is conducted over three days during the autumn semester, with each day consisting of a 2-hour session.
Another highlight is the Computer Vision Workshop, held in the spring semester. This two-day event trains students to use computer cameras for image recognition and classification, which has become a crucial skill in the field of image processing.

On the other hand, the Robotics Society also organizes industrial visits in Malaysia and occasionally overseas to Singapore. The purpose of these events is to maximize students’ exposure to the industrial world and allow them to gain insights into the engineering industry. They also provide opportunities for students to seek internships and career prospects, as well as to better understand industry expectations of undergraduate and fresh graduate students.

Lastly, the Robotics Society is also eager to act as a forum that develops competency and encourages innovation among students by organizing various events, workshops, competitions, talks, and more. Its initiatives are always in line with its motto: “For the passionate, intuitive, innovative, and inventive robotics enthusiast.”
