The Registrar’s Office will register each student for a study abroad placeholder at 12-credit hours. This is a placeholder course which shows that you are still a full-time student at the University of Illinois. After we receive your transcripts from your host institution, the placeholder will still appear on your schedule but for 0 hours and the courses you take abroad will be transferred for credit with appropriate sections, course number, and title for course articulations for degree requirements/credits.
Students will be automatically enrolled in LAS 291/292.
Students must enroll in a sufficient amount of courses directly at the host university to be considered a full-time student. This must convert to a minimum of 12 UIUC credit hours.
Students are also allowed to register for up to 1 Illinois online courses at no additional cost. This does not count toward your full-time status at your host university.
You will complete a course unit form, which will be emailed to you from Manchester. If you need a signature from Illinois, bring it to 2019 BIF or email it to studyabroad@business.illinois.edu. Please remember if you are studying in the fall, you will need to note that you will not be returning for exams and need an alternate option.
There is an add/drop period within the first two weeks of instruction.

FALL STUDENTS: The date upon which students can leave is determined by which course units/subject areas they take. The link here indicates whether each subject area offers alternative assessment or not. Alternative assessment means students do not need to remain in/return to Manchester after the Christmas break to sit in-person, on-campus exams. Many subject areas replace the January exam with an essay which can be completed and submitted before Christmas. Other course units may set an online assessment which can be taken from anywhere in the world - BUT the window in which that assessment becomes accessible may be after 20 January, and so students would need to complete it after your Spring semester classes had started (and in some cases it may require them to sit the exam in the middle of the night due to the time difference). There is no possibility at all that students can sit exams earlier than they are scheduled to be taken in Manchester.
