Privacy Policy — Universal Remote
Last updated: 20 June 2026
Universal Remote ("the app", "we", "us") is an Android application that lets you
discover and control TVs and streaming devices on your local Wi-Fi network. This
Privacy Policy explains what information the app uses and how.
SUMMARY
- We do not require an account and we do not collect your name, email, or contacts.
- The app works on your local network; the data it needs to control your devices
stays on your phone.
- The app shows ads through Google AdMob, which may collect certain information as
described below.
INFORMATION STORED ON YOUR DEVICE
To work, the app saves the following locally on your phone (it is not sent to us):
- Names and network addresses of TVs/devices you connect to.
- Pairing credentials needed to control those devices (for example, the Android TV
pairing certificate, or Samsung/LG access tokens).
- Friendly names you set and your ad-free timer.
You can remove this at any time using "Forget" on a device, or by clearing the
app's data or uninstalling the app.
LOCAL NETWORK ACCESS
The app scans your local Wi-Fi network (using mDNS/SSDP) to find compatible
devices and communicates directly with them to send remote-control commands. This
communication stays within your network and is not transmitted to us.
ADVERTISING
The app displays ads using Google AdMob, a Google service. To serve ads, Google
and its partners may collect and process certain data, such as your device's
advertising ID, IP address, and app-usage information, and may use it to provide
personalized or non-personalized ads. This is governed by Google's policies:
- How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services:
https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
- Google Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
Where required (for example in the EEA, the UK, and other applicable regions), the
app uses Google's consent mechanism to ask for your choice regarding personalized
ads. You can also reset or limit ad personalization in your device settings
(Settings → Google → Ads).
PERMISSIONS AND WHY THEY ARE USED
- Internet / network state: to communicate with your devices and to load ads.
- Wi-Fi state / Nearby Wi-Fi devices: to discover devices on your local network.
- Transmit IR (infrared), where available: to control devices via your phone's IR
blaster.
- Advertising ID (AD_ID): used by Google AdMob to serve ads.
DATA SHARING
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with third parties
except as needed for the advertising described above, which is handled by Google.
CHILDREN
This app is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age
required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from
children.
YOUR CHOICES AND RIGHTS
Depending on your region (for example, GDPR in the EEA, the UK GDPR, India's DPDP
Act, or CCPA in California), you may have rights regarding your data. Because the
app does not collect personal data on our servers, most data can be managed
directly on your device by uninstalling or clearing the app's data. For ads, use
the in-app consent prompt and your device's ad settings.
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on this
page with a new "Last updated" date.
