This step-by-step guide describes how to use the United States-International keyboard layout in Windows 7, in Windows Vista, and in Windows XP.

With the United States-International layout, you can type international and special characters by using combinations of keys.

To see different keyboard states, move the mouse over state keys such as Shift, Caps or AltGr. You can also lock or unlock those keys by clicking them.

When I started reading about the advantages of the Dvorak keyboard layout a few months ago, I decided to give it a try. I switched the same day and never switched back. I however felt that there were a few things missing in the standard US-Dvorak layout that needed some accomodation. In my native dutch langauge I every now and then need to type characters like  or . As I write German and Swedish as well on top of those I needed ,  and the like. On my original US-international keyboard layout, pretty much the standard layout here in the Netherlands, these were all pretty easy to type without the need to learn Alt+NumPad codes by heart. They are however completely lacking in US-Dvorak.

I am working on MacBook Pro OSX Snow Leopard which has an azerty (Belgian) keyboard. But for coding I use an external US international keyboard. The problem occurs when I am using the US international keyboard setting.

This thread has shifted quite a few times and I believe not everyone has the exact same problem.

But to let you all know, my problem of not being able to type double quotes " on a MacBook with a US keyboard set to international english has been going on between from Unity 4.0 and until 4.2.

I am happy to report that the new version of MonoDevelop coming with Unity 4.3 now works fine.

But, I still remember that in the beginning I'd choose the US international keyboard layout and it would have exactly the same output as the Windows keyboard layout (and most recently, the OSX US international layout).

If you use an international keyboard in Ubuntu, probably you already noticed the behavior is different from a (in my case) Brazilian Portuguese keyboard, or even from a English (US) international keyboard running on Microsoft Windows.

That's called a "dead key". If ` isn't a dead key in the current keyboard layout, merely remapping another key to it won't give you back that functionality.

Have you tried simply using the "United States-International" keyboard layout instead of the "US" (non-international) one?

FYI, "SC" (scancode) identifies a physical key, while "VK" identifies a virtual key. The keyboard layout is what maps SC to VK, so the SC doesn't change when you switch layouts within Windows. When defining a hotkey, you can use just SC or just VK instead of both. I'm not sure if this will help you though, since it sounds like you're using two physically different keyboards.

But some of these recent developments have not been welcomed. Criminals have taken advantage of these recent changes that allow them to travel more freely and to move money from jurisdiction to jurisdiction with the touch of a button on a computer keyboard. We are also seeing crime in our changing world that not too long ago was not a focus of enforcement efforts such as computer crime, human trafficking and money laundering. Crime has become much more international in character because criminals see a benefit in conflicting or fuzzy jurisdiction for law enforcement organizations. They know that by operating across various borders they are less likely to get caught because of jurisdictional uncertainty or the inability of law enforcement organizations from various nations to work together effectively. 9af72c28ce
