The Nation Needs Leftists, Not Liberals

The results of yesterday’s election were a devastating blow to the Democratic establishment in the United States, as they braced themselves for the new reality, that Vice-President Kamala Harris was unfit to lead the nation. The discourse surrounding the defeat of the incumbent suggested that the defeat came out of nowhere and that all the conditions were favorable to her victory. However, those of us on the frontlines understood that the election was not guaranteed for Harris and that she could not count on a Trump defeat, as the election was closer than ever. The immediate aftermath led to shifting the blame on the leftist youth while forgoing an introspection of the party or the examination of the candidate herself; the discourse surrounding the defeat was immediate with scorn and hatred for leftists, who in the liberal view refused to give up one Palestinian life to save millions of American lives. The election bore one principal to bear: That the liberal is an obstacle to progress, and would rather befriend the fascist than make the smallest concession to the leftist.
Martin Luther King wrote in his letters from Birmingham jail that the liberal is a greater obstacle to the black man than the Ku Klux Klan and the White Citizens’ Council, and while his scathing criticism may seem extreme, it perfectly encapsulates the Democrat mindset. Throughout her campaign, Harris talked about restoring balance and bipartisanship, while distancing progressive voters and actively courting Republican endorsements. Harris was often seen touring with Liz Cheney, the proud daughter of a warmonger whose construction company profited from the Iraq War. At the same time, the Harris campaign turned around and warned the voters that another Republican in the White House was a blow to democracy, and that to vote for her was to save democracy. It is important to ask why the Harris campaign felt proud to pander to them. Why is it, that while warning America about the republican danger, she promised to place someone from the same party in her cabinet? The liberal would rather maintain the capitalist systems of power than embrace those who demand change. While wearing the veneer of progress, they seek to undermine the working class through solidarity with the bourgeoisie. Fundamentally, Harris agrees with the right and has no problem coordinating with them if it means a leg up in the race. Her gleeful collaboration also extended to the silencing of activists who demanded an end to Israeli genocide.
The aftermath of the October 7th attacks catalyzed to awaken the youth and raise awareness of the Palestinian plight. Those who had previously lacked politics, suddenly found themselves at the forefront demanding an end to the genocide and to the Israeli occupation. The momentum extended to the election, where thousands of Americans poured out to demand Kamala Harris end military aid to Israel and commit to the liberation of Palestine. However, instead of heeding Arab Americans’ concerns, she ignored and silenced them by letting them know that there were more pressing issues than the Genocide of the Palestinian people. Arab shaming was not limited to the Harris campaign; the vice president’s supporters often took to social media and the streets to revel in the hypothetical destruction of Palestine when Trump got into office. Kamala’s sycophants often let the world know that Palestine would die and that it would be our fault for standing up to genocide. To Liberals, standing for the machine and American hegemony was better than sacrificing material gain for the moral high ground, and history has judged them for it.
The nation’s future is now at stake, and as the trump presidency unfolds the liberal will once again begin standing for human rights and the selective dignity of the few. The liberals may go as far as to claim they were against the genocide in Palestine all along, and that had Kamala won they would’ve stopped it. However, history demonstrates that the liberal is a hypocrite, whose only aim is to keep their power and preserve the status quo. When grassroots action continues, it is important to understand that while the liberals may sit at the solidarity table one day, the next day they are more than happy to plunder its gains. The liberal is to be welcomed, but they are not to be seated in the inner circle. History attests that they would rather be self-righteous than work for real change.
